Re: Baseball vs Yale
I have never understood why we don’t schedule 2 series a year against SEC teams. Because they're disincentivized to agree to a home and home. Just like basketball, the big conference schools will play some combination of 1. a neutral site tourney, 2. a P5 (P3 in baseball?) home and homes, and 3. bu...

Re: MBB 84 vs #24 FAU 85
The student that made that good video after the Cotton Bowl. Brought up a good point on Twitter. That lazy play at the end of the half that allowed an easy layup ended up being the difference. Obviously there was time to make that up, but it’s those little things that make a big difference between ...

Re: Malachi Nelson
Word on the street is that Nelson went from asking for $500K to simply taking anything anyone would offer, potentially even just a scholarship. This kid went from being a top 10 recruit in the country, a 5 star prospect with offers from every school in the country who sat 1 year behind a generationa...

Re: Tulane vs Virginia Tech in the Annapolis Military Bowl
Something interesting I just heard. Todd Helton said that any transferring player that wanted to play today would be allowed. His reasoning was that his job is to put the best players on the field and if those guys want to transfer after the bowl that’s fine but if they can help win today they will...

Re: Prospective Head Football Coach Discussion Thread
I would still be wary of what is reported publicly, even by Guerry Smith. No media was anywhere close to reporting correctly on the AD search, nor have they been close on any Tulane hire in recent memory. Note that he says Sumrall, Calhoun, Atkins, and Simmons were AMONG the finalists. This doesn't ...

Re: Selecting the next TULANE AD
Not a thread jack, I’m not sure Willie is legendary yet as discussed above but he clearly deserves to be in College HOF. He has won at every HC job at four different levels (JC, D2, FCS and FBS) and often spectacularly so However at this point, he probably is only the third best coach Tulane has ha...

Re: Selecting the next TULANE AD
Does anyone think Gosha wasn't thoroughly vetted before Dannen hired his as his #2? He wouldn't be in the position that he is in if there were actual serious concerns about his FAMU tenure.
I'd also assume he follows Dannen to Washington if he doesn't get the Tulane AD job.

Re: Selecting the next TULANE AD
No one willing turns down a significant pay raise and a better job.
Sounds like wanted the job but couldn't publicly say he was interviewing, then didn't get it.
No one removes himself from consideration because of loyalty. They say that when they are told no.

Re: American Conf Announces Men's & Womens BB Schedules
Men's conference schedule is arguably more difficult than last year.
FAU will be top 5 team preseason.
Memphis was a tourney team last year.
UAB won NIT.
North Texas was NIT runner up.
Charlotte won the CBI.
8 games against those 5 teams.

Re: Full Men's hoops OOC announced
This is 2023 college basketball. Any decent opponent (not even necessarily "good") is only willing to play on a neutral site. We've seen this with Tulane's scheduling the last few years, with both tournaments and solo games. Big programs are only taking home games against teams that they d...

Re: It's officially excuse making phase
While the baseball results this season have certainly been unacceptable, there has been entertaining aspect in seeing how quickly people switched positions from "Tulane schedules no one out of conference!" to "the out of conference schedule is too hard!"

Re: Ron Hunter to Georgia Tech buzz?
Of course Ron Hunter is the best coach we've had since Perry Clark, but that bar has been set very low. We have won 17 games this year, 10 of which were in conference...a conference that will very likely only receive 1 bid to the NCAA tournament. That 1 team we were blown out by 20 at home and 30 o...

Re: Ron Hunter to Georgia Tech buzz?
I think it is more likely that Tulane would fill the job with someone of a lesser coaching ability than Ron Hunter, not more. He may not be perfect, but he is certainly the most competent coach Tulane has had in 25 years, and has produced the most competitive team the program has had this millennium...

Ron Hunter to Georgia Tech buzz?
Per Jeff Borzello of ESPN "Another coach who started his tenure in impressive fashion, Josh Pastner won ACC Coach of the Year in 2017 and also went to the NCAA tournament in 2021 after winning the ACC tournament. But he went 12-20 (5-15 in the ACC) last season and was 11-16 (3-3) entering the w...

Re: Basketball Team Stats and Rebounding
For what it's worth, Tulane averages a -4.2 offensive rebound differential with a +3.7 steal differential, so those two essentially net out to equal possessions gained/lost; that being said, I'm sure those offensive rebound numbers would be more negatively skewed if we removed non conference games a...

Cotton Bowl Payout
One thing that struck me about playing in the Cotton Bowl versus the Military Bowl or Fenway Bowl is that the payout has to be significantly more. Articles I found state that the payout is based off of "Playoff Revenue Pool." By comparison, the Military Bowl shows a payout of $2.066MM and ...

Re: Quarterback Depth
you have to include Banks and McMillan in the Ruse years. Banks had a solid first year and then regressed. McMillan was a solid starter for a year and a half and won us two bowl games. But I do agree the HS recruiting early on at the QB position was a total bust. I was talking just recruits. Also l...

Re: Mens Full OOC Schedule
Jmac are you happy with this schedule? Or the general direction of the entire department? This is the first time in at least 2 decades we've had some legitimate hope of making a postseason run, so just going with the same old same old doesn't feel like the right approach to me. Tulane 1991-92 OOC s...
