Mewelde's stats dont show how critical the staff feels he is to that team. He is in the game in the late 3rd and 4th quarters of ALL games and most importantly when they are in clutch situations to block and be a threat out of the backfield.

I know he doesnt get the ball much but it is clear to see how the staff and players trust him, no more clear than in the Superbowl last year when he was in for just about every OFF snap of the 4th quarter and final drive.

"Stats dont lie, but they dont always tell the truth either!" -

My favorite quote about that subject is, "There are lies, there are d@mn lies, and there are statistics." My experience is that this is incredibly true.
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

that's mostly accurate big money, but there was some slippage very late in the year. Tomlin called out MeMo's blitz recognition near the end of the year and we started to see a lot more of Mendenhall on third down situations, and not just on 3rd and 1 or 2.

Now Tomlin is a guy who will do this to motivate. In fact, Mewelde closed a couple games for them earlier when Tomlin put Mendenhall in his doghouse. Those coach's decisions don't themselves mean in any way that Mewelde is in trouble.

Still, with the emergence of Logan as a punt returner and the explosion of Mendenhall onto the scene, Mewelde will continue to have to hone his craft and his security is not a given in Pittsburgh. I'd like to see them release Willie Parker in the offseason, and see if they can get by with Mewelde as a two-series-a-game change of pace guy, along with his established role as a 3rd down, two-minute drill, and pooch punt return specialist. He can handle it. He's always proven that when given a chance to see extended time, he gets it done.
