Tulane Draft Chances 2018

Post by tulaneoutlaw »

It's NFL Draft time again, which means it's time for my annual post on our draft chances. The last few years have been relatively good to us in terms of players drafted. We've had four players drafted in the last four years after having a five year drought between 2009 and 2014. Last year, of course, Tanzel Smart went to the Rams in the 6th round.

This year Tulane has a few players that might see their name called. In the past I've used CBS sports to predict which guys have the best chance of getting picked, but unfortunately their broader prospect coverage has gone significantly downhill since last year. According to them, our best 2018 prospects include:

Parry Nickerson - 19th ranked CB, projected 4th-5th round (CBS)
Ade Aruna - 23rd ranked DE, projected 7th round (CBS)

Along with Parry and Ade, I've seen Jarrod Franklin's name on some early draft boards (though he isn't on them now). We also know that Dontrell Hilliard had a great pro-day and is probably on some teams' radar now. For those in the know, are there any other guys that have a good chance to be drafted/signed as free agents? As always, feel free to pull in things from other draft sources as CBS is pretty limited.

I'd be shocked if Hilliard doesn't at least sign as a FA and make a squad. He is the prototypical RB in today's NFL. Reminds me of a young Pierre Thomas or Tevin Coleman.

if you're a successful team with late round draft picks, Donte would be someone I would target. A team like the Patriots who can afford to take a player with potential and groom him into a productive part of their team

heard a number of "experts" opine that the two most impactful positions in the NFL are QB and end pass rusher. So I'm still hopeful that a guy like Aruna gets picked in the 5th or 6th Round as a "project". Saw that he Patriots went for a RB in the first round so they must think that's a position of need for them, hopefully they'll take a shot at Donte Hilliard as a cheap gamble that with Pro Coaching and development, he can blossom in their system.

I'm hoping the Viking draft Dontre Hilliard. They need a pass catching RB.

Through 3 rounds and no Tulane player drafted. Parry would have been the only one potentially this high, but no dice.

I think we'll see Parry go in the first half of today with Ade going later in the day.

There are some other draft implications so far involving former Tulane RBs. The Giants took Saquon Barkley which can't be good for Orleans Darkwa. Likewise for Robb Kelly after the Redskins took Derrius Guice. By the nature of their high picks, both Guice and Barkley will get lots of touches early on.

The Giants didn’t resign Darkwa. He is currently a free agent. Somebody will pick him up. He had a productive year especially considering the Giants has no offensive line and no threat of a passing game.

Washington already had a crowded backfield with Thompson, Perine, Kelly and Marshall. I’m surprised they haven’t tried to trade one of them.

Parry is the highest graded CB remaining according to NFL.com. but then half a dozen guys graded lower have been drafted

Always love when a Tulane player gets to play in the Meadowlands. I’ll be seeing him in September.

Give me Aruna to the Pats at 198 and I can turn off the draft for the day.

Ade has been in Kiper's Top 10 since midway through the 4th. Hope he gets picked soon.

Congrats to Parry! Hope he tears it up in NY.

This post should NOT be in this thread. Lee is not a Tulane alum and abandoned us.

I agree Windy I was just being lazy not digging up the Lee thread. Mods can move it if they feel like it.
