Word from the Rice board is that they have selected a new head coach, but that it won't be announced yet, as his #1 assistant is still on a team playing in Supers/CWS. Some one else said that assistant is Gautreau. Is Rice is about give Andy Cannizarro his second chance?!

There is no way a "fine, upstanding" school like Rice hires a guy who just had a scandal bad enough to get him fired from an SEC school.

You would think whoever takes the Mississippi State job might want to keep Gautreau around

Gautreau is from Texas, so that in itself could play into this.

Gautreau is staying in Starkville. They hired the Indiana head coach. Underwhelming when you consider some of the names mentioned for that job.

Yeah a crappy hire. Definitely didn't do good at IU.

6th place, 3rd place, 6th place, 5th place in the mighty Big 10 in his 4 years. Took over for Tracy Smith who finished 7th, 2nd, 1st and 1st in his final 4 seasons at Indiana. He definitely didn’t do as well as Tracy Smith and Smith hasn’t done very well at Arizona State

When you consider that for a while many people thought it would be Schlossnagle take the job, yes it’s very underwhelming.

Interim coach leads them to the CWS and within 1 game of playing for a national title. How does he not get the job?

He was an assistant at Louisville and I noticed you failed to tick off his post seasons with IU. Underwhelming if you say so, but I think a solid hire, but in the grand scheme of things don't care.

You just like to argue. I didn’t say it was a bad hire. It’s definitely underwhelming compared to the names that were mentioned

Mind boggling. Henderson is a helluva coach. Turned Kentucky around. Looks like a Rich Rodriguez situation. And I don’t think Henderson would have had any affairs to worry about.

As someone who roots for Mississippi State when they're not playing Tulane, I am feel almost exactly like I did when Scelfo was hired over RichRod. Horrible decision IMHO.
