Whether Dunleavy was right or not that Coach K only offered this guy because MD "prequalified' him doesn't matter much now. It did however lead to one of the more lively recruiting discussions on this board a few years ago.

Obviously the irony would be rich if he did come to Tulane to cap his career albeit for a different coach.
Still dying on this hill, huh? Wasn't he a Duke legacy? Yet somehow K was relying on Dunleavy's "expertise"? It's a wonder Duke has managed to recruit anyone before/after Dunleavy was here.

Added on edit: went back and read the original thread...he was a top-75 player who committed to Duke the summer before his senior year but K "offered very late" after Dunleavy "prequalified him". Thanks for the laugh in these difficult times!

Save your laugh for MD. Why don't you call him and ask him? He's still in town. Story comes straight from Dunleavy as a direct source. Do you have anyone at Duke as a direct source that player was getting a Blue Devil offer regardless of what Dunleavy was doing? Or is third hand the source of your laughter?

This is the difference between first hand reporting and hearsay. Just curious.

If I am not mistaken, the under the radar kid was PG Jordan Goldwire who committed to Eastern KY, before Duke came in late. I don’t know about O’Connell

Oh, don't worry, I've been laughing at him. When speaking to sources, you might want to consider their motivation. Just a smidgen of common sense could help you figure out why Dunleavy would say that. And, yes, it's laughable that Duke wouldn't offer a top-75 player without Dunleavy offering first.

O'Connell was ranked 55th in the country by Rivals, and his father played at Duke. It's really a shame that K found out Dunleavy was recruiting him...probably never even heard of him before that.

Kavonte Ivery is a 6-7 Sophomore SF at Georgia State who is transferring. He only averaged about 10 minutes per game at Ga State with minimal stats, but he did play for HC Hunter. Although not highly ranked, he did get offers out of high school from LSU, U Mass, and Texas A&M

This one is interesting. Carter Diarra is a 6-4 SG who is leaving Kansas State as a graduate transfer. He averaged about 14 ppg last year. Originally from South Carolina, he was recruited hard by HC Hunter at Georgia State.

Tulane is apparently interested in 6-6 195 SF Christian "C J" Jackson. He is a freshman transfer leaving U Mass where he played sparingly this past season. He is from Atlanta, GA and was not highly recruited coming out of HS.

I had heard they have a few openings.

Rice transfer Drew Peterson (see previous post) is now hearing from Tulane. Stanford, Cincy, Creighton, San Diego, VA Tech, and Minnesota are among the schools also involved. Drew Peterson went to high school in Illinois and was offered by Yale, so he may be looking for a strong academic program as well.
