Rene's Roundup: Recruiting and coaching news
Written by Rene Nadeau | Sunday, 17 January 2010

http://www.neworleans.com/sports/sports ... -news.html
Tulane is starting to gain some momentum as we head toward the stretch run of the 2010 National Signing Day but the Wave did lose one pledge when punter/kicker Cody Mandell (6'3-215) from Acadiana High School changed his mind after a previous pledge to the Green Wave. Mandell now lists Minnesota, Baylor, Northwestern and Iowa State as his possible choices.

How can a guy named Jazz even consider playing anywhere else but New Orleans?

That's a pretty pathetic job by Rene on the updated one. As far as I can tell, all he did was take a look at the Rivals.com database and feed the names that have "Tulane" listed in them. There's zero information about where Tulane stands or anything about the player other than height weight and schools interested. That also happens to be what's on a Rivals.com profile page.

What a complete joke. That's coverage? Maybe I'm spoiled by TWR, but how can someone even put their name on that?

Rene covers LSU football for the most part on Neworleans.com and for Cox Cable TV I would bet he knows very little about Tulane football.

I hope this guys does not know what he is talking about. It is a pretty sorry list. Tulane is competing with Fordham for a prospect.

Exactly right. Not only does he quote "stars" that match those on Rivals but all of his info-- height, weight, other schools, even ACT scores coincides with info on Rivals' "free site." Looks to me like he should have referenced his source, but, heh, that's a legal issue. Regardless, Scott's info on TWR is so much more current and accurate that it's ridiculous. Pretty sad "journalism" in my view.

Why would you expect Trahan's information to be different than TWR? Could be they got the info from the same source.

I wonder if Calvin Ursin is related to former WR Will Ursin

Observer, I think we all think that because Trahan and his staff are always, always, behind TWR and by days. If they were actually working to get news and get it originally I would believe they aren't reading TWR and re-reporting it. And it's painfully obvious Rene Nadeau's "story" could be written with zero sources or contacts. Anyone with the internet could have written that. It just questions their integrity.

I know exactly what they are doing at TWR because you can read the stories, hear from the kids, etc. It's just different.
