Kevin Berry leaves UNO, signs with Tulane
At Brother Martin, Berry was the 10-5A Player of the Year in 2008 and was named first-team All-State after hitting .500 with 33 RBI and going 7-1 with 52 strikeouts in 41.2 innings. As a junior, Berry hit. 427 with 32 RBI for the Crusaders.

Berry is playing at Cape Cod this summer for the Chatham Wranglers as a pitcher where he is 1-1.

Berry chose Tulane over Southern Mississippi, who also offered him a scholarship

So, those of you have seen this young man locally, is this a good "get" by RJ? I would assume so, since RJ doesn't just dole out scarce schollies.

2 for 1 type player. Haven't seen him so its tough to tell. But I'm glad we didn't need to find out by watching him play for USM.

This probably is a very good pick-up. Solid baseball background, pitcher & infielder. His best yrs.(3 of them) are in front of him & he will be playing for us. My experience tells me that most of these kind of guys from the N.O. area are good & savvy.

Ray, I was just thinking....isn't it good that there was no internet and no YOGWF when you, I and Crumley were playing for the Greenies. I hate to think about what would have been on the boards when we decided to play..."Who is this guy?. What is he doing playing baseball? "

I graduated with him from high school... He's a nice/smart guy and will fit in at TU. From what I can remember from high school, he's an all around solid player, but haven't watched him play since then.

Before the rending of garments and gnashing of teeth commences...let's just say the kid had a change of heart. Who knows why. It's a nice summer Saturday and the foibles of a 19 year old should not make or break our day.

Unless he goes to LSU  .

Remember when Tulane baseball was a more desirable landing spot than LSU baseball?

You remember... it was only a couple of months ago... those couple of weeks between when we blew them out and they were tanking in conference, and the weekend where they won the SEC Tourney and went to the NCAA. :x

I doubt he was offered a full schollie by us in which case I can't blame him or his parents for choosing LSU. If academics were his sole priority, he most likely would not have started at UNO to begin with.

Ouch. So is LSU an upgrade?

That would depend on what was his chosen field of study. There are some areas of study where Tulane can't touch UNO.
