D1 baseball reports Dylan Carmouche headed to TU

Post by randymc »

The frosh from national champ Miss. State is headed to Tulane via the transfer portal. Carmouche is a lefty pitcher who saw limited action on the mound for Miss. State this past season; he made 9 appearances out of the pen and recorded 11 K's in 7.1 innings pitched. Registered a 1.23 ERA, with 1 win and no losses. He's from Denham Springs and played high school ball at LSU Lab School, setting records there for strikeouts.

That sounds pretty positive.

Here is what Perfect Game said about him two years ago when he was a high school prospect. (Rated 9.5 with two-way potential on mound and at 1B/OF).

He threw against us this year, and I was very impressed with him in that little bit of action that I saw. 6'5 lefty with a power arm. Will be interesting to see how we use him.

Finally some great news about Baseball.

A 6'-5" left handed pitcher who is a switch hitting power guy and plays 1st base.

With that description. lets hope he can be a 2-way player. :-D :-D :-D

He is pitching in the Cape Cod league this summer. He has made 5 appearances (2 starts). In 16 2/3 innings he has allowed 22 hits, 11 runs (all earned), walked 9 and struck out 22.

It's a great get, but expectations need to be tempered some.

Grading on a curve (pardon the pun)?

I've piled on Jewitt as much as anybody, but he does deserve credit for the recruits coming this year and this transfer. Hopefully, he can coach these guys up and they can reach their potential.

Except that's literally the argument every year and then he crashes and burns.

As it stands now and has it been for a while, anytime TU gets a baseball player that was just on the team that won the NCAA College Baseball World Series, is great. :-D I do not know if he was even on their roster at the game in OMAHA.

But for TU to pick up a 9.5 Perfect Game Player rating, a 2-way player, a left handed pitcher, and a 6'-5" tall switch hitting batter 1st baseman (with power potential) is great news for TU.

I for one, am not getting my emotions or expectations up too high, but I can hope he turns out to be a great player. :-)

I’ll wait to see some results before I give him too much credit. Good recruiting doesn’t mean a whole lot if it doesn’t result in wins, especially with the new transfer rule. Some of these kids could be out of here after 1 season

Just checked the latest Recruiting Rankings by Perfect Game Baseball for the 2021 recruiting year, after considering the recent draft. TU has moved up to no. 26. (TU used to be at 41,40.)

LSwho moved down to 13. (too bad)

I saw a tweet yesterday of Tulane baseball guys and coaches on a Zoom call, showing lots of names and faces in the Zoom video grid. Frankie Niemann and Trevor (presume it was Trevor Minder) were both on the call.

Ranked 26 by D1 is strong. If we can get some pitching, this could be the year we return to the NCAA.
