Men's Tennis Wins AAC Championship

Post by TU77CAL82 »

It would be nice to win a conference championship in something. We used to do it all the time. Tulane to play USF, who knocked off #1 seed Memphis today. Match time is at noon and will be on American Digital Network.

You and I have vastly different definitions of "all the time".

But, good news, and good luck to them. Bring us home a title!

We sure did. We regularly won C-USA championships in baseball, women's hoops, both sexes tennis. We were 3rd or 4th in total C-USA titles right up until Katrina (and beyond that; it's just that we stopped winning them after Katrina). And that was the Lou, Cincy, TCU edition of C-USA.
We need this one.

Although we beat USF at home 6-1 a couple weeks ago, they have yet to lose an AAC tournament match. Ever. They’ve won the 1st four AAC tourney titles. Now 14-0 all time in the tournament. They were the 5 seed this year and have already taken out the 4 and 1 seeds. Time to put a hault to their run and start our own!

For some of us older guys, Tulane tennis was like Kentucky basketball, when Tulane was still in the SEC back in the decade of 50s. Tulane lost, I believe one dual match in that decade. Furthermore, it was more fun to watch them practice then watch them play opponents. If the scoring was like it is today Tulane would have many more National Championships then the one today.

Apparently not. (At least, I can't find it) Seems that all they have are archived interviews.

Tulane still has the most sec men’s tennis titles. Even though we haven’t been in the sec in 50 years.

Lost the doubles point (fairly common for the team this year).

Won the 1st set in 4 of the 6 singles. Up 6-5 and down 4-5 in the other 2 first sets.

Huge to lose the 2 break lead and turn around and win the last 2 games at love. Well deserved championship!

I guess y'all didn't think that claiming the Conference Championship was worthy of a totally new thread of its own?

I watched a little of it. Reutzel had every opportunity to fold and kept fighting. It’s great to see a program that has been pretty good for the last few year’s take that next step. Based on their ranking they likely won’t host and will be a 2 seed somewhere.
