despite Encalade’s absence lately he and Mooney are still the most productive WR duo in the country. Obviously this is a little flawed as a lot of teams spread the ball around to more receivers reducing their averages but it is still nice to be at the top in something, especially offensively.

Spread of 82% to 68% from first to second is immense. This just confirms Guerry Smith's reporting. We have two receivers and that's about it.

Didn't realize this was ever in question or that we even needed Guerry to report it. We had one receiver last year until Mooney started coming on towards the end.

This number is so inflated by a flawed offensive philosophy. Two catches by RB’s the entire year. The TE is never part of the game plan. Wonder why we get sacked so much. I don’t understand what they are trying to accomplish through the air.

i know it’s a waste of time to respond, but you are greatly confusing two things. The lack of awareness by the QB isn’t a “they” question. We know what “they” want to accomplish. They just need a QB that can accomplish it.

Is a TE that runs a route 90% of our pass plays considered “not part of the game plan”? Or a wide open RB in the flat on most pass plays not part of the game plan? Of course a QB holding on to the ball too long would never create sacks. It’s those planned sacks the coaches use that are killing us.

If the QB doesn't check it down to the RB in the flat, that's one thing. But there's no reason we can't run an angle or wheel route where the RB is the primary receiver. Or, heaven forbid, a screen.

A brief search of Doug Ruse's mental database produced only the following for "screen":

We’ve run designed screens and may have even been successful on one, but in most cases, the RB had no chance of catching and running due to either a poor throw or no OL getting out to block. Maybe Banks has had a chance to work on screen passes and we’ll see more of them. He doesn’t do WR screens well and those throws allow for more space to throw.

We have not run one screen play, nor do we ever check to the flats. In addition, no crossing routes utilizing the RB in motion. And this group is the most talented group we have. Kamara and Ingram usually catch the balls 10 times a game. We have completed two passes to the RB’s for the entire year. There must be a way to incorporate this into the game plan.

??? Just curious. He was on this story way before the season started. He called it early, often and correctly especially understanding the implications of Canteen's injury. What do you expect from a beat reporter? If he is delineating the obvious why do you waste money subscribing to his web site?

Or maybe if it's that obvious, ml should be the reporter!

I'm not criticizing him or his reporting.

In my first act as reporter, I'd like to point out that our OL play is subpar. Will standby for Baywave's confirmation.
