Starting things off, we had the UConn Blog on our podcast this week:

https://soundcloud.com/user-774038550/3 ... uconn-blog

Big things:
- They're bad, and there aren't many signs things can get any better in the short term
- The defense is better than last year but the offense has fallen off a cliff
- We talked a lot about what being independent might mean and whether there is any optimism for the program. I think the answer on this one is generally no

Listening to it now. Good insight from the UConn blogger. He really sounds dejected when talking about their football program.

Feel bad for them, really. I mean, still want to beat them down like there's no tomorrow, but still.

Yup. As pointed out elsewhere, Cowen succeeded there and that could very easily have been us.

Cowen being on the Board suddenly makes all of these brutal mistakes by UConn suddenly very understandable.

It would be phenomenal if UConn's AD decided to step down and they hired Rick Dickson.

add Price as their new HC and you would have the Perfect Storm.

But he did say UConn has a more prestigious football heritage than Tulane.

No, he literally said that. I guess they did win the Big East once? Right?

Did they ever win the SEC?

Yeah, to be honest I thought I misheard him at first but I don't think that stands up to debate. A) UConn was in FCS when Randy Edsall started so their history is, by definition, very very short. B) While they did make the Fiesta Bowl out of the Big East, it was extremely fluky and 98 Tulane would have rolled that team, not to mention the very old timey Tulane legacy in the SEC and such.

Too bad their "prestige" doesn't really appeal to their fan base:
Quote:
Despite receiving more than $2.5 million of the $17 million payout given to the Big East for Connecticut's participation, the Connecticut athletic department estimated it lost $1.8 million by playing in the Fiesta Bowl. Connecticut, which was required to purchase 17,500 tickets to the game, resold only 2,771 of those tickets, resulting in a $2.9 million loss. Travel expenses and other costs comprised the remainder of the deficit

FYI... fearthewave started a weekly email that you can sign up for through their website I think. (I used a link in his tweet).

I noticed Edsall’s AAC teleconference was only about 2 minutes with the only question being from the host and it was about our turnaround and Fritz’s was 6 minutes and the host had a couple of interesting questions to ask.
