If one is approved I think most will be inclined to get it. There are a quarter of a million people who have volunteered for the recently open third stage trials . The impetus is the great desire to get back to normal.
I hope you're right and the anti-vax folks are a relatively small number as they were pre-COVID. However, the anti-vax crowd before didn't have any particular "government control/conspiracy" angle, they just thought it was a health risk. This time you've got the millions of "government can't tell me what to do, no way I'm taking a shot the government is pushing" folks who will likely fall on the side of the anti-vaxxers. Heck, most of those folks already think the whole thing is a hoax anyway so why would they need a government-funded shot when it's not actually a risk? And if it's mandated (either to participate in certain things, or just period), that's gonna set them even more firmly against it. Sprout nailed it above... Everyone learned everything they need to know on Facebook.

My belief is non-vaxxers are loud but there aren't nearly as many as you give them credit for. Let's just hope at least one gets approved by the end of the year or early next year. Then we have to hope and pray that the distribution is well planned for and executed.
Here we come!

Group of PAC-10 players making safety demands or they won't play.
I wouldn't be surprised to see this happen elsewhere now that the idea is out there...

I started thinking of board squares for "excuses not to get the COVID vaccine" Bingo. Everything from "causes autism" to "changes the race of babies" to "makes you a government-controlled automaton when they play a subliminal recording during TV broadcasts". Literally, the craziest s#! +* you can think of, someone's going to believe and spread on Facebook.

"College football players of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your $400 per month cost-of-attendance stipend."

Pass the popcorn to watch gleefully that union-management pay negotiation.

50%. Sure. "We'll give you half of what we make and I hope it can pay for the rest of your college or whatever you decide to do for the next few years because there ain't gonna be an athletic department left if half the money goes to the players..."

And the article immediately following:
MIT professor believes arenas can be 'as safe as public parks'
Interesting post from April 23rd I caught as I clicked on the thread. The state of Iowa completed it's baseball and softball high school seasons including playoffs, with supposedly 30,000 fans in attendance. No flare ups, no shut downs. Granted, these were small high school parks with attendance low enough to allow distancing. I think outside vs. inside makes a huge difference.

The spread (carriers without symptoms) was also immensely less then. Not really relevant any more.

There's plenty of businesses that pay their employees 50%+ of revenue and somehow manage not to go out of business. Somehow, I think schools will manage.

You really think schools are going to take 50% of their revenue and give it to the athletes as pay? Really?

No, Pete - the post was from April 23rd. I think Iowa just completed their sports seasons, but I'm not sure the exact date.

Well, UCONN opted out of football for this year. Doesn't affect Tulane directly, just indirectly, since we don't have a game scheduled with them this year. How many other dominoes will fall this football year?

The story on ESPN tries to make them look good. Independents are in trouble this year if a league or whomever doesn't throw them a life preserver.

Mountain West presidents apparently voting on an 8 + 2 plan today. The plus 2 is to accommodate Air Force games with Navy and Army. I also saw something about the MW believing that CUSA and Sunbelt Covid protocols weren't up to snuff. I wonder what the AAC thinks about that. We've heard nothing official from our conference yet, It's looking like we'll be the last to announce.
