This should repeated to the Tulane Board every 5 seconds until they get it. Success is sports is basically priceless to the university. Only good can come out of success and winning in sports. It's so simple that it amazes me that a supposed top 50 academic institution can't figure that out.

Back to the game.

Good win for the team. I was there with about 200-300 other fans - didn't expect much with the holiday weekend.

Sims and McQueen had good games. It seems that for most of the game Richard wanted to be somewhere else - definitely didn't seem to be into the game, but the steal and dunk towards the end of the game was key. I think that Holmes is a going to be a really good player.

This is the team we are. If we play a team with a strong inside presence we are going to struggle. When we play a team with no real inside game, like George Mason, we can play with them and have a good chance to win those games. The good thing for Tulane is that there really are not any teams in CUSA with strong inside play. It is a small team league and that will help us win some games.

We do need some work on handling pressure - we had some pretty bad turnovers against the press and half court traps. Towards the end we burned them for some fast breaks against the press (good adjustment).

I was proud of the way the team responded after twice giving up 8 point leads. Way to go Greenies. Keep it up.

Great to hear. Happy for Coach D considering the whole announcment debacle. I'd love to see us in postseason play.

George Mason was a good matchup for us because they lack size as well.
Their press got us in the first half - we adjusted in the 2nd and made them pay for it, with several runouts, including probably 4 in the last 2 minutes.
McQueen seemed to do a good job on the boards.
Richard didn't have a good offensive game - but he seemed to know it as he passed up open shots early (and then confirmed that it wasn't his day when he bricked 2 free throws). But he still played D.
Holmes made some nice moves.
Mason really shot the 3 well.
I've seen smaller crowds with the school in session. I guess I'm just getting used to it.

This is a HUGE win. George Mason has a win over Indiana and 2 close losses to #5 Villanova (1 point) and #21 GT (8 points)

mini mvp award to Vianney who played their best player (Long) tough (no matter what others say, he IS and HAS BEEN our defensive stopper at the guard position). He played D on Long for 13 minutes and held him to 3 points and several turnovers. Richard played D on Long for 18 minutes and Long had 21 points.

I thought the hustle and toughness was obvious. That, as GSx says in the football threads, is a base minimum. There is no one on this team that gets away with even a single slack play. DD is on their arse immediately.

We don't have the most talent, but our hustle and guard play will keep us in many games and win us a few games we shouldn't (on paper).

I have felt good about the team's potential this year for a while. If we can get thru non-conference at 8-5, we could see a nice season.

I think you have to be at least optimistic about this team's chances. These guys play ridiculously hard and I think they have enough scoring (thanks to Holmes, and improved Richard) to back up the hustle.

Should be a fun season in Fogelman. Yesterday's game was a lot of fun to watch.

Could be. If Sims has his shot back we'll have a special year. Holmes is a great athlete and is only going to get better with more PT.
Very well played game. We're making nice progress in our basketball program. Congrats to coach DD and his staff. Had we played Georgetown this way who knows..............

Very nice win indeed.

I don't want to overlook Monday night, but we do play UNO on Wednesday. I hope we are ready to play this year. I'm tired of losing to them. We must not let UNO out hustle us again.

EV played great DEF - he was able to use his Strength as an advantage where KR is very opportuniztic with his hands and hustle - EV was able to get physical with Long - it was awesome really.

Kudos

I was glad to see McQueen's acknowledgement in the TP that he played soft in the recent tournament. As the head coach said, he's got the body, and he's got the ability. It's all about the toughness and the intensity with him. As a senior it's long overdue for him to play like a strong, 6'7 guy with good hands and a soft touch around the rim. There will be people who play over the top of him, including shorter people, so he has GOT to be fundamentally sound with his boxing out, crafty with his shoulders making space for his shots, and most of all physical on both ends. He was all of that yesterday, and it was so nice to finally see.

You can't play post basketball in college like a cool jazz saxophonist. You have to play it like a bass drummer. Go hard, swing those sticks and bang, big man. Let's see some more of that.

No seesaw for me. Read what I wrote on Sunday -- "I don't want to overlook Monday night, but we do play UNO on Wednesday. I hope we are ready to play this year. I'm tired of losing to them. We must not let UNO out hustle us again."
