Re: AAC supports controversial call at the end of TU/SMU gam
That article says nothing unfortunately. I'm sure Aresco is mad about the call and about the AAC not getting another bowl birth. But he can't turn his back on the AAC officials because that would make the AAC look bad. I hope they are making changes behind the scene to make sure this does not happen again.

Although the league did not issue an official statement, communications director Chuck Sullivan emphasized that the burden of finding indisputable evidence to reverse the call and the tendency to defer to the decision of an official on the goal line looking right at the play.
Enhancing the debate, SMU’s video department released a camera shot broadcaster CBS Sports did not have. Taken from the opposite end zone, the video shows Banks’ forearm landing short of the goal line as he was tackled by linebacker Kyran Mitchell. Whether any part of the ball reached the goal line is open to interpretation .
Man, that last statement really 'clears things up', doesn't it!

If the video on our first touchdown was conclusive enough to change the call on the field (a 14-point swing in the game), then so was the video at the end of the game. You have to be consistent in whatever standard of review you apply.
Re: AAC supports controversial call at the end of TU/SMU gam
Good point; the two review calls meant a 21 point swing against Tulane in a game it lost by 3. When you lose by a micron then literally almost everything matters and any thing that didn't fall your way, you can reasonably argue caused the loss.
I was sort of looking going to Miami for XMAS. Oh well.......

They don't have to be consistent. They're supposed to be consistent, but if they are dishonest and want one team to lose, then they can call the game the way they did. As long as we're stuck with Human referees, we are subject to this sort of travesty.Luvs da Wave wrote:If the video on our first touchdown was conclusive enough to change the call on the field (a 14-point swing in the game), then so was the video at the end of the game. Have they said anything about ponying up some bucks for pylon cameras? Otherwise, the AAC's comments on this is still crap.

Oh I was soooo ready to buy long green (and any other YOGWFer) a mojito/pina colada/Cuba libra and smoke a big fat cigar on the night of our bowl victory.Baywave1 wrote:I was sort of looking going to Miami for XMAS. Oh well.......
Still stings like hell.
Should have a team viewing party of the Boca bowl.

Morris just hired at Arkansas. Karma is a bitch. If SMU loses to Tulane, Morris probably not hired at Arkansas. An SEC school can't hire a coach on a 4 game losing streak can they?
Re: AAC supports controversial call at the end of TU/SMU gam
Hard to believe Arky hired a coach who never had a winning season at his last school. 6-6 is not a winning season.

SMU was 6-5 coming into our game, finished 7-5. My point is...who cares.
Re: AAC supports controversial call at the end of TU/SMU gam
The game I saw we won on the last play, 44-41. I'll go with reality. SMU finished 6-6 and we know it and they know it and so does everybody that saw the game except one sideline judge whose view was blocked and called what he wanted to call instead of what actually happened.StPeteWave wrote:SMU was 6-5 coming into our game, finished 7-5.
