For the last few years, most of us spent Fall Sunday mornings trying to do just that...

that was my thought exactly

Came across this picture caption. Presume the T-P is up to it's old tricks.... and it's not Cuiellette, but Christian Daniels.

"The final score was offense 16, defense 2."

Good to know the offense won on the scoreboard.

If you offer me that the defense scores two points for us and holds the opponent to 16 points before any game on our schedule, I'd take it. It would probably mean we'd finish 11-1 or 12-0, because I think our offense will score more than 14 in at least 11 of our games.

Though it's a bit worrisome that our offense only scored 16 against our supposedly questionable defense.

As I've always said, you can't tell much about the team as a whole from spring games. Kinda like trying to judge a basketball team based on the Midnight Madness scrimmage. Success by any one unit means failure by the other.

Pete I get where you're coming from. Midnight Madness is the very first practice and it's format isn't usually game like. However there's a big difference with regards to the spring game. It is the last of 15 practices and is game like for the most part. It's still far from the start of the season but it's a pretty good barometer of what one can expect from the team next season. There was a lot to like last night. I would think it left most if not all there with the feeling we could have our best season in a good while.

Not much has been posted about the Spring game so I'll throw in my 2 cents. Banks looks much improved and is now in control of this Off the biggest question next year is we can keep him healthy the backups have long way to go but still a lot of time for them. At RB Bradwell and Huderson are good between the Tackle runners but Dauphine is as explosive as he is fast and looks like a stud. Encalade is primed for a monster season and looks unstopable . The OL still has our QB's running for their lives and not much time to go to secondary targets. For the most part the D looked real good they gave up some big plays but almost all were to our big time players. Jeffery Johnson is going to be a monster as a Tr Fr with all summer and Fall practice ahead he should be an impact player. Another true Fr at NT was Davon Wright who looked good and should give us depth. Nothing was shown in the kicking game but we can't be as bad as last year.

I would echo everything G-wave said and would add:
- the 1st and 2nd team interior D throttled the interior run all game. Huge positive and has to make WF happy.
- the D play that caught my eye was the first long by Dauphine. He was turned in by the CB and was tackled 25 yards downfield by Frosh DT Wright who looks like he’s got size and wheels.
- the D played with an edge. Mouthing off to Dauphine after stuffing him on successive runs inside the 5. Can we be physical? Can we punish?
- Banks was hampered playing w/o WRs Mooney and Robertson. He is as good an all around athlete as we have on O. Teams will have to have to scheme to contain his legs.
- 13 Newman was 1st team Punt return and looked like he will contribute at WR.
- CB opp Lewis is wide open. camel??
- TE Jones an underutilized beast (pet peeve)
- no silly penalties. Very disciplined. Very organized.

OL seems to be the most challenged unit in 2018, IMO. Knighton, who looks like he has the body to factor, played back up C. Jackel started at OG as RFr.
I trust Atkins.

And just in case it wasn’t clear in G-wave’s post - 77 Jeffrey Johnson will be tough to move around, no matter who he is up against. Think a more active Sean Wilson.

looks like J. Johnson was a big time catch by this Staff, will be fun to watch him for the next four years. And 1401973, I completely agree with you TE Jones is an underutilized weapon.

Don’t go to sleep on Davon Wright. He’ll probably get as many snaps this year as Johnson. Don’t forget the returnees, either. Kennedy, Sample, & Johnson should all have good years.

all true, plus we have two more pretty talented DT's coming in the Fall. The Staff did a great job re-building the DL. We should be set there for a few years. Once again, its the QB position and its crazy lack of depth that's a big concern.

It’s not crazy, it’s what happens when three backups transfer.

I think “Huge Positive” is a promising nickname candidate for Jeffrey Johnson.

Am I the only person who saw the punter shank 2 punts with no rush?

Also, we lined up to kick an extra point and the kicker shanked it - and I don't mean it was wide right, he literally kicked it into the backside of a lineman. I don't think the ball got 5 feet off the ground.

Last year we lost to Cincinnati because we missed a FG. We can't afford to have bad special teams again this year if we want to go bowling.

The good news is the new kickoff rule (you can fair catch a kickoff in the field of play and start at the 25) will hide our bad kickoff coverage as I would think most teams would fair catch it and start at the 25.
