Looks like Braynon Edwards is gone, so we are really inexperienced on the DL. Not to mention that any talk of a 3-man front is probably out of the question, because Edwards was probably the most typical NG in that alignment. The good news may be that the incoming freshmen are as good as advertised, with two more coming. But we remain really thin at the interior of the DL.

I'm sorry to see Edwards go. I think that at least one out of the duo of Johnson & Wright was going to pass him by this spring but an extra body with experience. Numbers-wise we'll still be ahead of last year but I was counting on Edwards as insurance.

Have we ever, and I mean ever, had less coverage on our Spring Practice from the two "local" papers than we've seen this year? I know we lost our Beat Writer at NOLA and our Beat Writer at the Advocate is on contract (so they use him sparingly to save money). But Good Lord, we're getting NOTHING. The little bit that's posted here is all generated in-house by Tulane.

They're busy covering the fast start in baseball

yup, looking at LS who on the advocate - they have had 6 practices and there must be 10 spring training stories up. I can only hope we are a stealth missile when the season starts! But would like to hear more about how the team is progressing and how we are filling the apparent holes.

I have a unverified hunch that he media believes nobody has any interest at all about Tulane. So they think it is a bad business decision to waste resources on them. The media is probably correct that it isn't worth their resources writing articles aimed at the loyal hardcore fans. However, I really believe that there are alot of readers who passively follow Tulane when info is delivered to them. The local sports people don't think these people exist. They think everyone is an LSu fanatic or hipsters who doesnt pay attention to sports.

There's no question that they see it that way. Hopefully our results will force them to change things.

No Spring Break for these guys ...

Quote:
With Tulane football spring practice on pause this week because of spring break, he was joined by freshman Jaetavian Toles and redshirt sophomores Corey Dauphine and Devin Glenn, as the trio teamed up with Kibet in the 4x100m relay. The group placed first with a time of 40.50, which is the second best in school history, only behind a time of 40.37.

Meet was at UCLA.

I’ve been reading Newman’s name more and more. Not a speed guy and not that big, physical WR that colleges are looking for but he looks like a guy that will just make plays. Worth keeping an eye on.

It was pointed out in the latest “BASEBALL! AAAAAHHH!” thread that Jeffrey Johnson was running with the 1st team. With the departure of Edwards I rather expected that to be the case. I hope Davon Wright is doing nearly as well because we’ll need him too. If he’s not Johnson’s size he’s not little, either.

and don't forget we have two other, highly rated DT's coming in the Fall. Including that very good one from DeLaSalle, who I think may really surprise us.

James & Thomas from AL are similar players. The decks are cleared for them to play a lot this year.

Why James doing good things would be a surprise to anyone is beyond me.

Bradwell, in size and running style, reminds me of Terrance Jones. Terrance was recruited by the "Big Programs" to play RB, but his dream was to play QB and Mack Brown and Tulane gave him that chance. He was a big guy who, when he ran the ball you would think, "He's not running that fast....." but then you realized he got tackled 20 yards downfield. Bradwell reminds me of him, big strong kid that, when he runs, he doesn't seem to be going so fast (to me) until you realize he's make a bunch of yards.

Jones was recruited by OU & Nebraska as a QB.

Terrence Jones had committed to Oklahoma originally but signed with Tulane.

I don’t know why I thought he was recruited by the Big Programs as a RB. Thanks for the correction.

Reading all of these reports it seems like Offensively we’ve filled the holes left by departing players and are, as a whole, much stronger than last year.

Defensively that doesn’t seem to be the case, we’re trying new guys in new positions some positions are still up in the air. Won’t be until Fall and that potentially great recruiting class comes in before we’re done. Hopefully.
