So, as most suspected, Jewett will be back for year three.

That was quick. Jewittt probably decided a while back and pulled the trigger immediately after yesterday’s game.

I don't think that was a question in anyone's mind.

He must have read my post

I think this was a long time coming. Jewett knew something had to be done.

No doubt it had to happen. Coach Jewett had to put results above loyalty if he has any chance of keeping his job beyond next year.

Anyone got any candidates in mind?
Daniel Latham is probably an obvious one.

Hope we can attract some good ones despite the less than ideal circumstances.

A change was necessary for everyone involved. I wonder whether Daniel Latham would be interested in returning to Tulane.

By the numbers for Latham....Tulane numbers under Dickinson below in parentheses.

ERA BB K WHIP W-L

2014 2.92 165 414 1.28 38-25

2015 3.17 146 478 1.21 42-17

2016 3.03 191 463 1.24 40-21

2017 4.23 179 414 1.32 37-22
..... (5.74) (318) (334) (1.71) (27-31)

2018 3.63 137 432 1.21 36-20
..... (5.19) (278) (368) (1.60) (24-31)

Hopefully this will make a world of a difference to Massey and others in a certain order. If that happens then the team should be competitive again net year.

And if it doesn’t, then we have to make a bigger change

Yep.

Oh wait. We can try three more guys between now and 2021

It was obvious that the move needed to be made. Like I wrote in the season ending thread, I wonder which bar in Clearwater Jewett and Richardson had their drink in.

And I wonder if it was a “your signature or your brains will be on this contract” type of discussion. No matter, I’m just glad it didn’t drag on and on.

This is a start, but we need more. This staff is not a fit.

What more do we need? Our offense was good this year.

I don't think that was a question in anyone's mind.

Maybe it was a hope, more than a question, that we would be proactive for a change.
This does not solve the problems of errors, baserunning, lackadaisical play, etc.

For goodness sakes.
Okay, maybe it would be too risky for him in these lame duck circumstances
But as a general principle, of course he would.

Yeah, but overall game management was lacking IMHO.

Windy, it is my understanding our offense was good because Jared did a great job combined with some natural talent. I didn’t hear one thing about the new coach other than he is laid back and is a terrible 3rd base coach. Jared is leaving to take a job with Mariners (I believe).

I wanted a new staff and from what I hear Dannen was emailed quite a bit with those same intentions. I think whatever the buyout squashed this from the get go. This staff may fit in the northwest, but at Tulane???

Our staff couldn’t find the strike zone with a GPS. The new pitching coach will have his work cut out for him. I would start by watching tape from when these guys had success whether it be in high school, junior college or freshman year (Ross Massey). Maybe he could spot something mechanical with a few. We need about 5 pitchers that did not contribute this year to contribute next year. Some will need to be new guys but it would be nice if a few were already on the roster. Could Chase Solesky be one or he is out the door?

The biggest complaint there is he left pitchers in too long, though; right?

It is my understanding that Chase has some health issues to work through. This is a tough one to read at this time.

I think today was nothing more than a smoke screen. Yes, I care about baseball, but there is this little buyout clause that cannot be paid.

In year one, we never had anyone ready to come in the game. No anticipation. No double barrel action. No decision making (those decisions were left up to Tighe).

In year two, it is my understanding things changed. The in game pitching decisions were handled better (not the results of course).

All you have to know is in Clearwater with a 4-1 lead in the eighth inning with a chance to advance to Friday and have someone beat you twice, we went back to the same formula we had used the entire season. Why isn’t Johnson or Bates on the mound? I have heard Johnson threw a bullpen that day because we thought no one was playing Thursday. If true, what else is there left to say?

So did Rick Jones.. but Jones didn't have a built in excuse of "just what do you think I have in the pen to replace this guy with?" like Jewett had
