COACHING NEWS: @GreenWaveBSB has snagged @Lions_Baseball pitching coach Daniel Latham to fill its staff vacancy. That’s a really nice hire for #Tulane head coach Travis Jewett. Latham is a stud.

Southeastern's WHIPs:
2016: 1.29
2017: 1.39
2018: 1.30
ERAs:
2016: 3.01
2017: 4.29
2018: 3.62

Half as many BBs, 1/3 the WPs. We're getting what we want, and more. Plus, Greenie nepotism tends to calm us down for a while 8)

Daniel Latham new Tulane pitching coach

Post by randymc »

Kendall Rogers says it is a done deal on Twitter. I was 2 minutes behind another poster. good news all around though. SLU was Top 40 this year nationally with a 3.62 ERA; and SLU was sixth in the nation with a 3.08 strikeouts to walks ratio. wow.
Walks per 9 innings stood at 2.47, 4th best in nation. WHIP of 1.22 which was 13th best in nation this season.

Great move. Matt interviewed with Rice today and that is a long shot. Daniel is a huge upgrade.

I wonder how big a long shot it is.
I imagine if Riser gets the job, he could pull a Sean Allen.
But I do know those guys would be thrilled to come to Tulane.

If Latham can get our numbers in those ranges we could win a lot of games next year.

Glad to hear the good news. We sure were due for some. If you've got pitching you've got a chance.

How many Jones proteges are/were in NCAA coaching? Mohl, Latham, Riser, the ousted Cannizaro. Just curious to know. Quite a coaching tree, really.

No, he didn't get fired...at least not yet. Penn State played a lot better in the last 3 weeks of the season and that might have saved his job for a year.

Glad to see Daniel back. Great hire.

Given my posts in the other thread, my opinion is fairly obvious; I love this hire, think that he is one of the classiest people we could have obtained. Fantastic family, good head on his shoulders, well-grounded; what's not to like.

Tootsie Roll pops for everyone at the seventh inning stretch (you old folks will know what I am speaking about!)
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

FWIW,

Looking at stats of Latham's pitchers at SLU, their top 13 pitchers have ERA's from 2.68 to 4.82, and their BB to SO ratios are 138 to 440.

We have 4 pitchers (out of 18), that have ERA's from 3.36 to 4.86, with 134 BB's to 204 SO's for those same pitchers.
