The difference being that every LSU baseball game last year, aside from the one @ Tulane was available on TV or ESPN3. Tulane had maybe 2 games available for everyone for free. Alleva was looking out for his fans.

Sorry but what LSU or Tulane baseball games for that matter were available on free TV last year?

I'm not aware of SEC or any other ESPN network being available for free in any manner by any provider. Neither is CST.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it’s pretty obvious what I meant.

In fact, it's not. Please elaborate.

Meanwhile LSU/SEC Network has the good fortune of being in COX and I assume other local area providers basic packages. So the majority of their customers that don't care about watching every LSU game subsidize the minority that do. (It is a minority. You can check the usage for "popular" sports networks across the country with mandatory carry in basic packages for local teams and all of them are similarly subsidized. YES has been the most publicized example but Astros locally is a closer example.)

So in that sense, yea, Alleva is looking out for his fans by making the majority that don't care about LSU pay so they can get other programming they prefer using cable tv. This is another reason the ala carte/streaming services are picking up steam and ESPN networks are hemorrhaging subscribers. Just ask Disney management.

LSU choosing not to travel to Tulane if Tulane isn’t going to put the game on TV makes sense. They want all of their games on TV.

Tulane not putting the game on TV doesn’t make sense.

Netflix seems to have done ok with streaming content.

Is this a joke?

You have spent alot of effort criticizing Dannen's business decision here while praising Alleva's. Just providing perspective on what is happening nationally and internationally in streaming content to provide context here.

The game was on "TV," just not the LSU preferred method, correct?

Pay per view of a low quality production. It was dumb whether you’re a Tulane or LSU fan.

I’m not praising Alleva but I understand his decision.
I don’t understand Dannen’s and please don’t compare this to Netflix. This isn’t netflix.

look we get it you're an LSU Fan Boy. Which has been clear to me for some time. And its good to get LSU's POV so we don't become too insular around here. Can we move on now?

I’m such an LSU fan that I spend time complaining on a Tulane message board about how I’d like Tulane to get a new baseball coach so that Tulane can be great again.
Makes sense if you don’t think about it.

FW, close this thing. As I said, it looks a lot like the old Battleground board, but I'm sorry to say, this time it's Tulane vs Tulane. Closing it won't cure that, at least not on this subject. But after all, we're supposed to be "one for all, all for one" here. At least I think that's why we are here, but when it get's like this I'm not sure that exists and that makes it ugly.

There, I voted.

As all of this discussion is based on pretty limited information, a statement of some sort from the AD's office would be helpful, but I don't suppose that is going to happen.

Visual is as green as it gets. Just because his opinion is different than yours doesn’t mean the thread should be locked and the key thrown in the ocean. He is allowed to defend his position as long as there are no personal attacks. The only one that gets away with that should be banned. As a moderator, you should have deleted every post where he insulted someone or cursed them. I don’t understand why the double standard.

This situation could have been avoided. I have heard from several players and they are disappointed. I have heard from plenty of fans that are disappointed. Tulane vs. LSU at Turchin was the best single athletic event put on by the university every year. This will not be replaced. And like I said earlier, there are plenty of Tulane fans that could not watch the game. This action was initiated by us and for what, a couple of penny’s, or to beat our chest and say we are not going to take this from LSU anymore. To me, that is meaningless. All I know, as a huge Tulane fan, that I will never see another LSU/Tulane game on campus again and that stinks. If we were talking serious money, I get it, but this was a mistake. Now we get to see uno and boast how we stood up to the bully. Sounds like a great time.

Not sure why everyone is melting down about the streaming vs. broadcast. They don't want to play us at Turchin. They don't make money on it and they actually lose the game. They can slot us into their other trip to New Orleans that they control and kill 2 birds with one stone. If we had put last year's game on whatever network they like, they would have cancelled it because the ticket prices were too high. If we lowered the ticket prices, they would cancel it because they don't like playing on turf. They did it in football and basketball and that's just the way the SEC works in 2018.

If this were true, they would have cancelled it years ago or never agreed to play on our campus in the first place.

washwave, you may be right. I don't think they cancel, but this gave them an out. I wonder why TD is agreeing to play them at all. We will get nothing for playing them on Airline.

I don't think that is the way the SEC operates in baseball in 2018 given the number of games and the length of the season. There are many SEC schools that travel to play the Stetson's, USM's, Florida Atalantic's, and Coastal Carolina's of the world (you could add a lot of teams from our own conference to that mix). Football and to a much lesser degree, basketball, are completely different animals.

Probably should have said that it's the way that LSU operates. It's all about the $'s for them.

LSU was petty- that is the way they operate. TD knew or should have known that.
But Troy Dannen was petty too. Not happy with Cox dual rates? Why draw the line with Cox, where you hurt the fans and aren't talking about much money anyway. It's nothing compared to the way WWL or Times Picayune treats Tulane...despite Tulane doing significant business with both organizations.
Agreeing to play in Pontiff just makes things worse.
And not to mention another disastrous year with only 1 team making the NCAAs for the 2nd year in a row. Do Better.

Thank you for some sanity.

Except for the fact that it’s pure conjecture.

I have been a season ticketholder for football, basketball and baseball for decades and I am a 3rd generation Tulane fan that bleeds green. I enjoy reading the diverse viewpoints expressed on this board but very rarely post myself. LSWho will do what LSWho wants to do - they are the Goliath of college sports in our neighborhood now and have dropped us in these sports because we actually had the potential to beat them on an occasional basis, which they hated. My personal opinion is that they would not be trying to end this great series in baseball if they could count on a win every time out instead of our recent dominance - that is what they expect from the other Louisiana teams they play. I will miss playing them that is certain because I enjoy the competition and particularly enjoy beating them. But I trust Dannen to take care of Tulane - I won't second guess him until he demonstrates that my trust is misplaced - and not caving to Aleva isn't it. Who knows what really happened here or what else had happened in this situation. Was this the last straw in other crap that LSWho has already tried to pull? I shudder to think where we would be if Rick Dickson was still the AD - yikes! Tulane needs to take care of Tulane, and that means quality coaches recruiting quality athletes and getting them to excel against a competitive schedule that gets our teams into the postseason. Let's win and give the fans something to really get enthused about. The jury is out on Jewitt and he needs to perform next year and his move to hire Latham - should have been done earlier - is a big plus.
I trust Fritz and I am excited about the development of the football program under his direction. I am hopeful that Dunleavy can continue to improve our basketball team - it has been dishearteningly low for so long.
I think all of this gnashing of teeth at Dannen is ignoring that it takes two to tango - and our dance partner was a real bitch!
