Would’ve been interesting to see Canteen out there.

I don't understand why Dauphene(?) isn't playing more. He may get stopped a few times, but he has the ability to turn the corner and take off. Combination of Bradwell & Dauphene gives us the best chance to move the ball.

1 Step Forward....3 Steps back.
They need the option. This O is pedestrian without it.
12 Penalties???

Worse than pedestrian. If the offense doesn't show significant improvement the rest of the way, changes need to be made.

Great O with banks against Memphis Productive O for a quarter with Banks today. Then we decide to play QB audditions in the middle of a winnable game. Good grief

Banks hasn’t been great, I’m open to either QB. But this was stupid timing. Let Banks go today unless it turned bad. Then take the 2 week break before a bad SMU (if you really wanted to switch qbs) Act like you have a plan

We scored all of our points with McMillan on the field, so I don't know what you saw today that was a productive quarter from banks. He was 1/5 for 2 yards passing and ran 4 times for 11 yards.

Now I don't know why they never went back to Banks in the 3rd quarter when it was a 16 point game and we had like 7 straight drives where we essentially went 3 and out.

Fritz was supposed to be about details without penalties. It's cost us all season just when we were moving the ball. The penalty in overtime against WF. The touchdown pass that put us ahead of UAB that came back due to penalty. Today, the offense was moving in the early drives, but 2nd half was pathetic. The touchdown right before half time seemed to change the whole game. The wave recovers a fumble and intercepts a pass with no results. The defense was worn out after constant 3 and outs by the offense. The running game had results in the first half, but mostly tried passes in second half with too many drops and offensive line break downs. They'all be lucky to win 5 games. Definitely not a bowl team.

Penalties is part of the problem. Questionable play calls another piece of the puzzle. Poor passing game another. We were on their side of the field, at the 30ish 4th and short and punt. Go for it!

I don't know if Banks would have been much better, but during the game I just kept thinking that we decided to stray REAL far from our identity and that it was bizarre we weren't putting Banks back in for even one drive just to see if he could get it going again. I mean when McMillan was on point, the receivers were DROPPING DROPPING DROPPING, so maybe it wasn't his fault, but again it seemed really weird to me at the time that we weren't even giving Banks a shot in the second half. Establish the run, and then try some throws. But all that throwing just ain't us, sorry.

we went from a running team to a college kid playing madden flipping the ball down field every play. total abandonment of the identity. the td pass was nice and the WRs were TERRIBLE but we left behind the last three years. i would have preferred banks after a few series of mcmillan.

I agree with this:

Final Thoughts

Cincinnati is good. There’s no shame in losing on the road to an undefeated team with excellent defensive tackles and an underrated quarterback is Desmond Ridder, but Tulane gave itself zero shot with a sloppy performance that was too reminiscent of teams in the past coming off huge wins. The good news is the Wave still has the potential to go a bowl game because a young defensive front keeps getting better and most of the remaining competition will be lighter. The bad news is the Wave has not played cleanly enough through the first six games to make it happen. This team is not talented enough to win four of its last six unless it cuts out the unnecessary mistakes.

Yea, commit 12 penalties and see how many games you win, even if everything else goes right.
A tough disciplined team is Fritz' calling card: that's how you get the most out of your talent and beat teams with superior talent like Navy and other have done for the last decade.
We could also use a QB coach, which we do not have.

Penalties or no penalties we could not consistently move the football down the field well enough to win

Ruse is our QB's coach. Enough said.

Do we have a game plan each week depending on the competition or do we just run the same offense against everybody and see what happens?

19 yards on the last 2 plays of the game is the only reason it wasn’t a season low in yardage.

1) The oddsmakers were correct. Cincy was the better team. Plus they were playing at home.
2) We changed QBs in the middle of the season. To a player who had only had 6 weeks in the system and with no apparent warning and with very little prior playing time.
3) The results of that change were, shall we say, not good. On second thought, just plain bad.
4) And unless this change was made because of a major injury, well why did we not go back to the starter? Was he injured beyond the point of return?
5) It is Monday (of a bye week) now and points 2 > 4 should have some kind of answers before we take the field again vs SMU. Or will they bring more questions, with one of those questions being "Is there panic in the program?" Time will tell.

We Tulane fans are pretty much totally perplexed with this turn of events.

One more thought and question. It references Guerry Smith's quite on twitter. When are mistakes ever necessary?

It's almost as if there's a cloud of bad juju surrounding the team. The first two seasons under Fritz seemed so promising, now this.
