There really cannot be too many bowls, in a practical sense. Nobody is going to continue to put on a bowl that loses money. The money is the bottom line for the people doing all the work to "make it happen. Market forces will tend to balance the number of bowls against the number of people willing to pay for the bowls.

This. If there were 38-40 bowls back in 1997. We would have gone bowling and not have this debate about the noise bowl. Wouldn't the Cure Bowl in Orlando have sounded good back then.

To quote SB Nation:

Bowl and TV executives aren’t that worried about team quality in the first place, but they do care about ratings and attendance draws. When there’s a surplus of teams, it’s easy for mid-majors to get shut out. That’s what’s happened to these guys.
That is why we all should buy tix to the bowl game regardless of whether we attend the game or not. Sorry windy, but man up.
The way bowl games work is that accepting the bid obligates Tulane to buy X number of tickets. Any tickets bought through Tulane simply means the athletic department loses less money on the bowl. There is no danger of Tulane selling more tickets than it has to purchase (I would bet we have to buy more tix to the bowl than we have season ticket holders), so it's not like we can impress the bowl bigwigs with how many we sell.

All true but every $50 bucks matters in these things. To all, buy the tickets as your Holiday gift to Tulane football and then donate them to the Department to get your tax deduction (if it matters to you.) Tulane will find someone to use the tickets if you can't join us in Orlando.

Everybody on this board should buy tix - if you can afford it buy several. They are as cheap as $25 for God's sake. 1/2 the price of the our homecoming game tix.

As mentioned above, the tickets are really cheap. $50 for sideline seats. $25 for end zone. Even if you’re not going, buy an end zone seat or two.

So what the're saying here is that if football teams were like light bulbs, these two wouldn't be of the long lasting variety.

Oops, read this fast because that lightbulb is about to burn out.

 What they're saying is that if the bowls were a 78 RPM record we'd be rotation 74.

Duh.

Heck, the only ones I’ve seen were in a thrift store and were red, not black.
