These blow my mind. From the first time I saw each of these guys line up and play for TU it was obvious their talent. Goes to show ya.

interesting... guess you can't build programs around guys like Matt Forte, Mewelde Moore... or more recently, Patrick Johnson (two stars, best offer was E Michigan), Darnell Mooney (2 stars, no other offers), Cam Sample (2 stars, best other offer was Ga Southern), Amare Jones (two stars, best offer was Tulsa). Jaylen Monroe (2 stars, no other D1 offers except Tulane), Corey Dublin (two stars, best offer was La Tech.. has started every game in two years)
You do realize how few players that is compared to the time span that these ratings exist. Plus our losing history shows you can't build a program that way.
We deserve so much better

Again, the average rating for each player is COMPARABLE TO LAST YEAR anyway. We're ranked so low because they don't count transfers and JUCOs and we left slots open. That's it.

Yeah, we've won 1 bowl and been to 2 in 15 years...really killing it!

True or not... Tulane has improved under Willie Fritz? True or not... Fritz has brought in guys with 2 stars and turned them into legit D1 players?

My point... quit looking at the ratings assigned by sites that live and die on the dollars generated from the cartel conference fans... Fritz sees athleticism that fits our needs and he brings them in.

Two of the Wave’s 18 signees will enroll in January—Wildwood (Florida) safety Kanyon Walker and Indian Land (South Carolina) linebacker Dorian Williams

Good for Dorian Williams.. Indian Land High is a fairly decent high school academically.. at least for a South Carolina public school.... good to see he's graduating early. Although, if any of you spent time in Indian Land, you'd want to get the fark out, too. We lasted about three years but listed our address as Fort Mill. Indian Land is a dumpster fire of a "town" thanks to a corrupt county commission interested in milking all of the metro Charlotte retail dollars that come south because of lower gas prices and property taxes from the dozens of high density subdivisions they keep rubber stamping.

[quote="doncecco"]Christian Montano - transfer from Brown - is from the New Haven area, and works out at the same gym my son works out at. A mutual acquaintance said he got a last ditch offer from UConn but told them he was sticking with the Wave. He should be a beast blocker for Bradwell and McMillan![/quot

UConn doesn’t have a football program. That’s a cute joke.

While I appreciate the enthusiasm, that's the exact same line, word for word, some folks repeated through the late Scelfo, Toledo, and late CJ years. "Who cares about their ratings, we'll coach them up". It's the perpetual excuse of the failed recruiter.

Fritz is the first one I've actually believed can coach them up. But looking at who else offered (forget stars) almost always is related to eventual level of success. Obviously everyone here points to Forte. Sure. A decade ago. But when we get guys who had a legit list of P5 schools offering, they pretty much ALL end up being really good players. Coaching up makes low ranked players good, but makes high ranked players great. I'd prefer the latter.

All of that said, I'm most looking forward to seeing McCleskey take 7 yard slants another 70 yards to the house repeatedly next year.

Pete, You are correct. But the other side could be true as well. The rankings are too often arbitrary as we saw with Hester. No stars when he is committed to Tulane and three stars almost immediately after last minute flip and signing with UNC.

Regardless we're talking about folks on the margin. Sign the universally acknowledged better players and Fritz is only bound to win more because he truly can coach anyone up.

This class is notably better than Fritz first 2 classes which furnished most of the players we won with this year.

I'd wager that of the best players on our team, most of them had okay offers from "peer schools" or worse compared to those with P5 offers.

This years class at this time is slightly behind last years IMO. The defensive line that WF signed last year trumps just about anything.

I think the current class is outstanding and if you rated McCleskey he would be a four star, Montano a high three star, and Howard a high three star. We met our needs just about everywhere. We still need a couple of OL, a QB, and either a WR/Safety/DE. I think we will definitely get some high quality guys in the late period.

If we win the west, play for the title and get to a nice bbn owl game next year and McMillan carries us there, you're going to see 4 star guys wanting to come to Tulane.

agreed with the poster that said the d line recruits from last year were really special. does not appear to be anything like that this year (excet the OSU guy). from last year, especially the big guy in the middle, seemed to make a huge difference, and he was highly rated. i tend to think the upper echelon players are closely examined but as you move down in the rankings they are less and less accurate because there is no way these ratings services have the man power to watch a 3 star player in Kenosha Wisconsin and accurately compare him to a 3 star in Los Angeles. however, the one guy from last year being recruited by the likes of Alabama and FSU sure seems to be really good and was highly rated

also excited about the guy fro Brown, as he should be plug and play. McMillan counts nowhere in any of our classes, correct? trasnfers don't count?

We might sign all 3 stars, but this year the entire AAC signed xero 4 stars. Zero.

As Fritz alluded to on signing day, there are likely to be some grad transfers still coming. I'm looking forward to all the bowls ending and seeing if we get some transfer commitments announced. And then to May when school ends and perhaps others announce.

For folks who have followed recruiting for years, the current transfer trend has to be like a whole new world. It's basically an unknown, mysterious market which could be nothing or could hold untold riches. And being a good academic school actually helps us there.

With a bunch of guys signed throughout the AAC had they been signed by p5 programs you would see some move from 3 stars to 4 stars. Much of the rankings are hype based and we've all seen players move. The funny ones are the ones with zero stars who go to 3 or mid-2 that go straight to high 3 when signed by a p5 program. Even if you look @ average scores, the AAC put some recruiting classes that were very respectable this year.

The team recruiting rankings are useless because it's based on quantity and average - much more focused on the fact that we are consistently recruiting at a level we have not in the past. As time passes this consistency will pay dividends. When these early classes start turning into Jr's & Sr's we will really see the impact. Love what Fritz is doing - program building.

We should call it the Rick Jones football strategy; after all, RJ used the transfer rules in baseball to great effectiveness (Micah Owings) before the rules changed on him in 2008. Tulane seems to benefit under the "second time is the charm" strategy, especially if you don't have to sit a year.

Pete, its like Free Agency has come to college football. Smart savvy guys like Fritz can really take advantage of the opportunities it presents.

Clearly we're exploiting it as well or better than anyone. And why not? Even with some misses, the benefits have been spectacular; we wouldn't have been bowling if EITHER McMillan or the OL from South Alabama hadn't come. This also may very well be why we're leaving slots open.

A good transfer is always welcome but I hope most of the final five are HS seniors.

As far as transfers go, I’ll throw out a name. Mike Williams, late of Dunham HS in Baton Rouge. He was a big QB at Dunham who signed with Texas but is supposed to be leaving after the one season. He’d be a DL, like a bigger Robert Kennedy, and the coolest thing is that after sitting out a year he’d be a class behind all the freshman DL’s who played for us this past season.

He's one of the very few "misses" and, while he had a history of being injury-prone, hard to blame the coaches for rolling the dice that he might have a healthy year or him for getting hurt.

To be clear, so do I, but another couple would only leave three more slots, and I think that's reasonable.
