Tournament thread

Post by NJwave »

We play a tough UCF team that took two of three from us two weeks ago and is playing really well. Having to potentially beat them twice is a tough ask but it sure beats having to beat UCONN and likely ECU twice. We will need a great start from Roper but a win and we get Cincy or Memphis in the winners bracket. Find a way to get to the championship and we come back with Roper against likely a midweek or seldom used ECU/UCONN/Houston pitcher.

Considering how we have played, the draw is as favorable as it could be.

my buddy was happy that our games appear to be later in the day as opposed to morning games when the team could still be trying to wake up.. I pointed out to him the later you play in Clearwater, the more likely you're going to get rained on. With our bullpen, the LAST thing we need are rain delays.. especially if guys like Roper and Solesky are pitching a gem.

I’m no gambler but I’d take odds on the chance that a Tulane and/or Memphis game is delayed because of weather. I’d also look at odds of us blowing a 5+ run lead in one of the games :-)

I figure the conference has to be pretty happy we aren't the 9AM start. nothing like one of our 4+ hour marathon games to start off a 4 game day on a field.

WR, is your weather prediction based on knowledge of the forecast for the week?

Now blowing a five run lead, i’ll put that in the enhanced risk category!

Very little chance of rain this week. Evenings have been very pleasant while days hot.

very atypical for south Florida in May!! Good news for the tournament, though.

With a 2-0 lead over Houston, UConn pulled their starting pitcher after 2 innings. Some strategery going on.

They didn't start their ace. Perhaps they didn't want him to pitch on 4 days rest or they realize that 1 win all but guarantees them an At Large Bid. They probably don't even need to do that. They likely figure that either Johnny Wholestaff will find a way to win this game or their ace should be able to take care of business against what would likely be Wichita State in the loser's bracket.

The kid that started pitched one inning of relief on Sunday against us and the kid they brought in the 3rd threw 105 pitches against us on Friday.

If it isn’t us, I will pull for UCONN.

Is it too early to think about an ECU vs Houston elimination game tomorrow?

Maybe not, Wichita just went up 6-1 in the top of the 9th.

And ECU has 2 on, no outs, with one run in, in the bottom of the 9th.

I believe they originally expected the night schedule to begin at 4:15 Eastern. It looks like closer to 6 depending on when this things ends. Given the average length of a Tulane baseball game, we could be having coffee and doughnuts during the later innings.

We're probably 90 minutes behind schedule. (4pm start closer to 5:30)

The temperature for Tulane's game might only be in the mid to lower 80s...

(We don't hit 79 degrees until 2am)

OK. I will say it. As fans, we've seen Tulane too many times pull the face plant in other MBB, WBB and baseball conference tournaments. Tulane obviously needs some luck this year and it received its first dose courtesy of WSU. May it continue.

First pitch for UM-UC at 4:35 C. Unless that game is quick, it looks like our game may not start until well after 8:00 C.
