Beat dead horse here...

Post by Poseidon »

So I am starting this thread to have a place for the inevitable once we start talking about the FIU game. What am I talking about? Well the Saints will be playing a home preseason game the same night as our game with FIU. This is bad scheduling. Its a week night I can't bring my family and causal fans will not go because they want to watch the Saints game or are attending it. The media local media will care less. We aren't even on TV, we will be on ESPN3.com. This is just stupid. There I have got my anger out.

All others do so here and when the actual FIU thread comes we won't discuss this part of the game. we can focus on what will be a the start of a great season

We went round and round the merry go round on this once already this offseason. I appreciate the sentiment, but did we need another thread to revive it?

You may be right. I at least thought TV would pick us up and we would have that excuse.

I honestly don't know many casual fans who watch the last preseason game anymore. No starter plays. Who gets the last roster spot? Let's see who goes to the Practice Squad! Yawn.

It's pretty much the worst football produced each year. Yes worse than USFL, Canadian, Catholic league jamboree, Playground 9-10s...the 4th game of the NFL preseason is pure D cr@p.

I am an absolute diehard Saints fan. There are few games I ever remember missing, certainly not in the past 13 years (and also through most of the 80's and 90s, missed the early 2000s while living away and before the proliferation of NFL Sunday Ticket, BWWs, etc).

But I will not waste a second, not a single second on the 4th Preseason game unless there was say a question about a Wave player making the team. And even then, I would selectively watch and much prefer ANY live college game, and especially with the Wave.

If we have poor turnout, the Saints game had ZERO effect.

Remember the 2019 season Martha? Tulane’s 1st game was a thrilling comeback victory to help jumpstart their year to a second conference championship in 70 years. What’s that you say? We were at the 4th preseason Saints game that year? Remind me: was that the one where the Kentwood Water guy held for an extra point or the Hubigs Pie baker picked up the tee after a kickoff?

I'll resuscitate the horse. Playing Thursday night opener provides 2 extra days of practice plus you get 2 extra days off between games 1 and 2. It's not playing on Thursday night that is inane.

Now, you don't want to schedule a marque game on the first Thursday (and we didn't this year).

It does not provide two extra days of practice. The team is still limited to twenty hours. It's needless to take a break then. The team is just getting into a rythym and now they have to take a break. It's stupid to schedule the opener on a Thursday night. With buildup the team has been getting we could have had a really good crowd on Saturday night. TD blew it.
Here we come!

You are not a Tulane fan if you cannot distinguish between an NFL PRESEASON game and a live--it counts--Tulane game. If you cannot bring your family, just YOU come then. I think FW is right, so is 1401973. BTW, you DO get two extra days to practice, on the front end. Forget the hours--you get an early start on the season and your players can "voluntarily" show up to work on passing drills and such outside of the practice times. Not to mention two extra days to scout and gameplan for Auburn.

If for no other reason, the Tulane game will show off a new, promising young OC who will largely determine our fate for 2019. If that doesn't get you to the game, then you are just a casual fan.
Plan your work, work your plan.
