Popsicle Ball Tonight Against JSU

Post by Baywave1 »

at Fogelman. I didn't see any posted odds. I don't care about that. I just want to make sure this year's team doesn't repeat as the SWAC cellar dweller. (Man was last year's team underachieving.)

Bring your jacket. It's cold.

I hear the arena has an HVAC system...

anyway, no TV coverage for the game tonight.. I'm kinda bummed about that because I loved what I saw the other night and want to see more.. I'll be 2 screening it on Saturday during the football game

Back in my day we had big ol' gas-fired heating units up on the top concourse that just threw warm air across the arena. They did a surprisingly good job (I'm guessing they were quite oversized). Sometimes we'd come in for practice on an early Saturday morning and they had not been running and we could see our breath in the arena during stretching, but once they fired up the heaters, it only took a couple of minutes for us to be comfortable.

Ah, the old prehistoric days...

A large room, and even Fogleman counts as that, ain’t easy to heat. I’ll be wearing my jacket throughout.
The gap between the top of the big leagues and their bottom is now bigger than the gap between their bottom and us - P.R. told me to do this

According to ESPN, the Wave is favorite by 9 tonight. Looking at JSU’s schedule, it appears we should be a larger favorite tonight.

Give those nine points and run to the bank. Time to bet rent and milk money again.

Yeah I have the same. Next year espn+ be the minimum coverage. Right now espn plus is worth it just for NFL prime time with berman and TJ IMO.

Heating it is easy if you have the right type of system. It was easy to heat with oversized heaters that threw enough hot air around to recirculate and warm the whole place, and which were designed for heating only. But overhead air conditioning systems trying to supply warm air from the ceiling, down about 25-30 feet, using standard air conditioning diffusers which were designed for the cooling load instead of heating.... yeah, notsomuch. A jacket is a good call.

as we struggle against Jackson State.... despite shooting 60 percent from the field in the first half, the number one team in the country (Kentucky) just lost at home by 3 to Evansville

I still feel like we are feeling out Hunter's defensive system (as in, our defense is pretty questionable) and at the same time relying on talent to score vs. understanding an offensive system. Thankfully we have a lot of talent and that's carried us past our first two opponents. There are always nights when you struggle against teams you should beat, and it's always good to come out with a W (Kentucky isn't feeling so good right about now).

Defense was not good tonight. Lots of open looks. Offensively we are difficult to defend. Lots of guys can shoot it. Zhang was very good tonight. Thomas hit two nice shots and will definitely be a factor for us. Days is going to be a player as he gets more comfortable. Ona-Embo was very quiet. I really like the fact that we pass the ball so well. All in all not a great performance but we get the W and lots to build on.

1/2 way to last seasons win total already.

Scary, ain't it?

Just listened to Hunter's postgame interview. Said (effectively  ) he tore the team a new one for their defensive effort in the first half, and overall he was not happy with the effort throughout, especially on defense. Glad to hear that.

Outshot someone else in a shootout. I don't really care who it is, I'm just glad that's something we're capable of.
Probably not going to see many teams without anyone taller than 6'7" for the rest of the way. Zhang at the 5 is/was a great matchup for that sort of thing.

Anyone who laid points with the Wave -9.5 got their soul snatched on a last second layup.

We get a push tonight on the bet. Better than losing.

And NJ you are right. Halfway to last years win total.

What do you’ll think the ceiling is for this team? Can they play .500 ball.

Tulane won this game offensively. Defensive gaps are no surprise. Days and Ali (hurt?) need to provide something down low soon or it may get ugly quickly. Walker is keeping ROE on the bench. Good for Tulane but I wouldn’t have guessed it. Hunter does an enormous amount of situational subbing at end of half and game. He knows what his players can and can’t do.

Crowd was very quiet. Cold I guess

Best part? Tulane loses this game last year. Baby step I know but at least so far Wave wins when it should.

Well at least we have realized early on that our defense is not so phenomenal that the gaps don't matter because we are so intimidating. Seriously though we are playing this weak schedule to give this team time to come together and gain some confidence. We can only hope that they take full advantage of it.
Here we come!
