Northwestern had 1,400 passing yards on 4.5 YPA in 2019. The only non-triple option team with a less productive passing attack was Kentucky and that was by design due to QB injury. I'm not underestimating them as much as I'm properly estimating them as being worse on offense than most, if not all, of the AAC.

They did finally fire their long-time OC this offseason but my vote of no confidence stands until they gain a single yard from scrimmage in their 2020 opener at Michigan State

They have impressive QBs on their roster, so that may not be their issue. They may be a little unpredictable with a new OC. I would like to see how our OL and DL will match up physically with them. I would like to think in this game we would be favored.

It's not really trolling, it's the smart, if inaccurate, way to label them. The vast majority of people who read this board don't know and care less what sort of initialization Northwestern prefers.

Frankly, if anything he's trolling us with this nonsensical "NU" foolishness.

Bingo!

Meanwhile when is the last time Tulane best an original member of B1G? I vaguely recall Illinois a few decades back but I’m not sure

Side note: wasn’t Rutgers still a BE Team when Tulane last beat them ?

We are not going to be favored against Northwestern.

Or Mississippi State. The name/P5 factor along will have vegas move the line towards both. We could win either game; neither is a gimme by any stretch, but neither is an impossible juggernaut.

If inaccurate being the key phrase.

Anybody who “expects” us to beat Ms St AND NW needs a strong dose of reality medication. Is it possible? Sure. Maybe even more possible than beating Auburn once. But it’s still be a helluva feat. I have a strong hope we’ll beat one of the two, but either would be a much much tougher win than Army was last year, and we NEED to beat one of those two (plus Army) just to match last years OOC record. So that makes this years OOC clearly a tougher slog.

Is Auburn >> MS St? Sure. But NW >> Army 19 and Army 20 is likely >> FIU

I don't know about that assessment at the bottom. At best, Northwestern will be as good as that 2019 Army team, which had great play-over-their-head mojo. That mojo is gone and Army is not as talented as FIU. I will agree that the 2020 Army game probably won't be as easy as the 2019 FIU game.

They won the frick B1G west two seasons ago. It's not like they are Rutgers or Indiana of old. If they have any QB play they will be a bowl team and probably second or third in the division

I am expecting a bounce back but all the way back to the best sort of teams under Fitzgerald?

They will go bowling next year

They had a complete implosion at QB. I don't see that happening again this year.

1970 Wave beat Illinois.. last Big 10 win before that was Northwestern in the 50s... Lost to Michigan in the early 70s.. that was our last "original" Big 10 game until the Ohio State game last year.

JMac, Thanks! I didn't expect to win the anti-senility pop quiz.

Regardless time for us to beat another Big Ten team.

amazing how few of the Big 10 we've played through the years... I can recall from my quick skim of the media guide: Northwestern, Illinois, Michigan and our last game v Ohio State. I'm not surprised we haven't played the likes of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana or Michigan State.. but surprised we haven't played Purdue.

Why are you surprised we haven’t played Purdue?

To go back to the topic at the top. I notice that we are behind Cincy and Memphis in the 247 rankings for 2020 classes. 247 does not count Trey Tuggle, though. If he was given a value that corresponds at all to his rating (247 disappearing up its own butt here) we’d pass Memphis.
