WR’s - Please Apply

Unread post by tjtlja »

We desperately need AAC WR’s. Pratt needs WR’s who can run crisp routes, get open, secure the ball, and get YAC.

Depth at the OL position is also needed. Pratt looked shell shocked in the 4th quarter. He looked like Patrick Ramsey when his career ended in Washington.

Defensively, we got a peek into the future. Our DE’s must get in the weight room. Hopefully, Hampton clears up the misalignment and miscommunication in the secondary.

Other than Navy second half, I thought we played our worst game of the year given the opponent.

Must be able to catch passes thrown right to you with no one else nearby.

Deuce Watts is our best receiver and didn’t play. Tulane is getting a high 3 star WR at 6ft 2 out of Miami FL. The TE’s look solid. Will Wallace looks great and will continue to develop under Coach Long (former tight ends coach I believe). Probably need one more big guy but that should be easy with the new transfer rules.

I saw one bad drop. What were the others? Pratt's OL got really bad when Claybrook went down but I think he played badly. But as he's good he got us back in it before that.

The two biggest ones I saw were Phat Watts tip drill INT that lead to their first TD and Toles wide open drop when we had a chance to cut the deficit (or possibly take the lead). The Watts one was a low throw but it hit him in the hands.

The Watts and Toles drops were huge. One gave them a score and the other prevented us from scoring when we had all the momentum.

In addition to those there were some other passes that weren't great that could have been caught. A couple in the flat to RB's and the two point conversion to Watts come to mind.

Perhaps we should take up a collection and donate the money to get the WR's better gloves....

Toles' drop was the really bad one. I thought the tipped INT was a bad pass to a blanketed receiver.

Phat dropped at least 3 and Toles had the bad drop.

Bad passes, except the one to Toles. I love Pratt too, but he can do wrong.

Bottom line is besides Deuce Watts and Jackson, we don’t have another every down AAC caliber WR (we had 13 players on the roster listed as WR’s). The position needs a complete overhaul.

The thing is we doent even need super athletic recievers. We just need some guys who will get openand catch the football. Posessions guys. As much as we like go talk about "playmakers" if we had just ok athletic guys who caught the ball we win the Navy game and possibly the SMU and Tulsa games.

Another thing, catching the football is coachable the WR coach needs to handle business. If you cant catch the coach shouldnt be playing you.

Have to play our guys because there is no one else to play. Again, we need a complete do over.

None of them can catch, so there would quickly be a problem if the coach followed your suggestion.

To be fair, I remember a few instances where we followed up dropped wide open passes with catches that would be forgiven if they hadn't come up with. For the whole season I'm talking about.
