Tulane Sailing -- National Champs!
Tulane Sailing -- National Champs!
Big finish for the Wave, took 2nd place ahead of a perennial top contender, College of Charleston at a regatta hosted by the Naval Academy.

Tulane will host the College Nationals in 2022, they seem to be building some team strength, to compete when they will play for all the marbles! Congrats to the Wave!

Re: Tulane Sailing
It should be expected that a school with the nickname Green Wave be good at nautical sports.

Seeing sailing reborn at Tulane is fantastic. Brings back some great memories from sailing and racing in the late 60s. And hosting the College Nationals will be quite an accomplishment for the school. Roll Green Wave.

Re: Tulane Sailing
Impressive showing for a relatively new varsity sport! 7th and 16th out of over 40 teams competing. It was pretty breezy in Newport for this event!

Re: Tulane Sailing
By pure coincidence I was in Newport, RI last weekend. Didn't realize that the Greenies were in action, though I did see the regatta boats out on the water.

Nationals will be hosted by Navy in Annapolis!
https://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2021 ... ring-2021/
A little different set up with boats launching from multiple YCs and meeting on the water to race to accommodate Covid restrictions. Looks like May 19th - June 8th, for the various competitions.

I still want to know what kind of donation it would take to name a boat the Windywave

I take checks made out to gerryb323. $10,000 gets you started

Re: Tulane Sailing
first, some humor - if you donate enough to purchase a boat, you should get to name it - $10000 sounds reasonable, right?
second, serious question about the sailing Nationals - what's the process for selecting teams to attend? Will Tulane be one of the teams?

Re: Tulane Sailing
Team racing is like playing chess on the water, tactics are critical to top finishes in each race and it is not just about speed to finish. The you tube video shows races from the beginning of the event and demonstrates the tenacity needed to actually get to the podium in this event. Collegiate coed fleet racing is more of the traditional regatta format and it will be sailed next week.
Re: Tulane Sailing
Tulane looks to be in first place on the last day of racing the 2022 Coed Fleet Race National Championship. Pretty amazing if these results hold up and they actually take the National Championship. Cannot tell if this is the final result - but given the how new this varsity sport is to Tulane - this is a tremendous feat. Charles Higgins / Tulane is hosting the event and putting on quite a performance. Handling the logistics and coaching in this competition - a major accomplishment!

Hopefully the results hold up for the Wave!

Re: Tulane Sailing -- National Champs!
I just showed my daughter the photo from the twit... I asked her "what kind of boat" since she's learning to sail... then I said "Tulane won the national championship" and I get "dad, it's a bunch of rich kids on water.. what do you expect?" I guess she was busy playing Roblox or something and I interrupted her to show her the image.

Re: Tulane Sailing -- National Champs!
Maybe one of the forum monitors can change the title to Tulane Sailing - National Champs.
I think they were sailing FJ's and/or 420's - Would have like to see the Big Green- Dartmouth, in the top 3 but good to see the Wave as a National Champ! Very impressive against schools who have been competing at the highest level for many years!

I clip around the local bay in a 12 foot sunfish from time to time. Had a decent length chat with the sailing coach a couple years ago at a football game. Nice guy, had the team with him and they were happy to cut it up with us plebs.
