That's why we don't discuss politics on YOGWF--there is more than enough hyperbole on both sides to float a fleet of dirigibles.

Re: Tulane Law Clinics
It would appear that the college education of the bill's sponsor is an "associates degree".
If I'm not mistaken that is a 2 year degree.

From wikepedia.com
Adley has owned Pelican Gas Management Company, Inc., since 1993. He was President of ABCO Petroleum from 1972-1993. Prior to 1972, he was a securities broker. Adley is affiliated with the interest group the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association.

Re: Tulane Law Clinics
Interesting article if taken on its face value (no politics) as this affects potentially the great work of Tulane Law Clinics.
Reading the nola.com article (which was fantastic) I always look to the comments for a few laughs. The comments didn’t disappoint however this link and subsequent article were included also.
http://www.businessreport.com/news/2009 ... ion-indt1/
Again, with no politics, the true nature of how LA works is as "Alice and Wonderlandian" as ever.
The "THEM against us mentality is just as platitudinous and puerile as ever."
And most of the time THEM is wrong...

Re: Tulane Law Clinics
It seems of great concern that an association is contacting Tulane donors and encouraging them to stop donating to the university and encouraging them not to hire Tulane alums.

Up above the Mississippi standing in plain view
Stands an old abandoned outhouse known as LSU
Oh the odor, of the odor, oh what a terrible smell,
Before I'd go to LSU I'd rather go to hell.
GO TO HELL LSU, GO TO HELL!!!

Re: Tulane Law Clinics
With all the fine Tulane Attorneys and Attorneys who are Tulane fans on YOGWF is there anything that can be done to cease the efforts of "Chemical Dan" the LSU man and his polluting-@SS buddies? This is a publically documented conspiracy to harm Tulane University by an association funded by oil companies, gas companies, etc. Moreover this basic "private energy task force" must have a trail of planned collusion with certain members attacking and irrefutably harm our school.
With all the local and national Legal associations opposing “Chemical Dan’s power play,” the media backing Tulane and public perception focused on the Gulf this seems a great time to behead this tyrannical Couillion who has overstepped the law but certainly the line of decency and good sense...

For those of you who don't make the connection, Dan Borne is not only president of LCA, but the public address announcer for LSU football games.JtS wrote:With all the fine Tulane Attorneys and Attorneys who are Tulane fans on YOGWF is there anything that can be done to cease the efforts of "Chemical Dan" the LSU man and his polluting-@SS buddies? Re: Tulane Law Clinics
So what do you say at your 30th"?" High school reunion?
Seriously, a tough situation and tougher choice if indeed it came down to that; old friendship or alma mater?
Personally, he's made his decision with a vengeance. I'd see how far my shoe could fit up his @ZZ... But I'm a real Pr&*$ (well known in these here parts! )
In my opinion, this is beyond personal. But a tough choice for you indeed.....

Re: Tulane Law Clinics
High school is a LONG way away for many of us on YOGWF. A close personal friend who is now in his 60s was boarding school roommates with a recent/projected presidential contender...and there is no love lost there. He too would opt for a size 10 shoe fitting.
Fan since 1974 living in Phelps seeing the upper bowl of Tulane Stadium

Tulane still target of law clinics bill, though amendments could spare Loyola, others Sen. Robert Adley, R-Benton, said today that he has no intentions of shutting down any law clinics in Louisiana other than the environmental clinic at Tulane University

I wonder how long that law (Tulane only) would stand in Federal Court.
Re: Tulane Law Clinics
Believe the bill is worded to ban environmental clinics only, not Tulane clinics only.MNAlum wrote:I wonder how long that law (Tulane only) would stand in Federal Court.

Re: Tulane Law Clinics
I loved this bit:
Adley described Tulane as "a billion-dollar industry that recruit out-of-state kids to come in and sue us."
as Randy Newman wrote about LSU: "Go in dumb, come out dumb too...."

Re: Tulane Law Clinics
I love Louisiana.....
Dan Borne
President of the Louisiana Chemical Association (LCA)
President of the The Louisiana Chemical Industry Alliance
He recommended-
1. LA should withhold support from Tulane University because the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic (TELC) represents clients in legal actions against members of his association.
2. LA take punitive action against Tulane because the Tulane Environmental Law Clinics are counter to the best interests of the state and its citizens.
3. LA legislature intact legislation against funding Tulane Law Clinics.
4. LA companies do not hire Tulane graduates, many from LA.
5. He is the public address announcer for LSU football games and a Very Bad Person....
Except that:
1. Tulane has The School of Science and Engineering
http://tulane.edu/sse/
2. Within the S & E School is...
Center for Polymer Reaction Monitoring and Characterization (a Non-profit center)
http://tulane.edu/sse/polyRMC/
3. The Center has an Advisory Board
http://tulane.edu/sse/polyRMC/board.cfm
4. On the Advisory Board is...
Mr. Daniel S. Borné, President of the Louisiana Chemical Association as well as the Louisiana Chemical Industry Alliance. (Baton Rouge, LA)
5. Also the Center has Partnerships and Collaborators
http://tulane.edu/sse/polyRMC/partnerships.cfm
6. Included in these Partnerships is The Louisiana Chemical Industry Alliance
http://www.lca.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=LCIA
7. And President of the The Louisiana Chemical Industry Alliance is...

this has been real quiet since we have been on the BP watch. should be interesting to see how this plays out.
Celebrating over 50 years as a Tulane Fan ....
Re: Tulane Law Clinics
Russ, I thought the same thing. Then again half of Louisiana is energy, the other half is seafood and the other half is tourism. It's Louisiana...

Billion-dollar? I wish. That would be nice.GreenieBacker wrote:I loved this bit:

Plus, I would think having a billion-dollar industry in New Orleans is a good thing, but I guess a yahoo who never had a real job in his life wouldn't understand that.

Re: Tulane Law Clinics
That's OK. Those graduates can just go to Houston, Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville, and Charlotte like they've been doing for years, and those companies and those cities can keep eating Louisiana's lunch.JtS wrote: 4. LA companies do not hire Tulane graduates, many from LA.
