Discuss today what is happening on campus non-athletically; departments, non-athletic facilities, professors, recognitions and issues. No athletics allowed.
Tulane and the parish thought they found a solution -- rezone the property to Medical District 4, generally referred to as MD-4, a designation that Tulane University officials have said is more compatible with the use of the property. And on May 4, St. Tammany Parish Zoning Commission voted 9-2 to recommend the Parish Council change the property's zoning to just that.
Several residents in the area are objecting to the proposed change. On Saturday, residents of the NorthPark and Versailles subdivisions, which border the Tulane center near Covington, met to vent, mobilize and discuss strategy in anticipation of tonight's council meeting.
While Tulane has voluntarily maintained a 200-foot buffer to nearby residences, there is nothing requiring the center to do so. With the newly proposed, potentially more intrusive zoning classification, residents fear that suddenly 100-foot buildings could be built alongside their homes, either by Tulane or whoever could potentially buy up the property....

Conference Realignment "is like changing seats on the Titanic."
And some desire immediate full disclosure and intimate details of a capital project like a football stadium possibly months, maybe a year before breaking ground?
Perhaps in this instance the "cone of silence" is actually the giant sphere of preparation, logic, strategy and game plan to defeat NIMBYs...
Simple solution...none of those NIMBYs should be allowed to receive medical services of any kind. Not just at this one facility but anywhere. If it's a violation of their rights to have a medical facility nearby, then using a hospital somewhere else would be violating the rights of the people who lived near the other facility.
