My sister had this surgery 35 years ago and they had to basically slit her throat from ear to ear. This is remarkable.

Fantastic!
I had open heart surgery at NIH in Bethesda, MD in 1966 at age 9 to repair an atrial septal defect, probably with me since birth. It was a risky procedure taking hours on a heart-lung machine then while medical science was still sorting everything out. It required sawing through the sternum and a very painful recovery and a very big T-shaped chest scar. Fast forward to 1978 while I was at Tulane and I heard the Oschner Clinic performed a similar surgery using a sophisticated laparoscopic probe. No cracking the chest. Tiny scar.
I love science.
