don't know what she's done to deserve the honor but congratulations winning the award.

Can't believe her great-great grandmother's house in Pass Christian is still there after Camille, Katrina etc.

I have the honor of knowing a MacArthur grant recipient in the classical music world. Recipients tend to be game changers. You cannot apply for them.

She won the national book award a few years back and is THE hot ticket on the creative Writing guest lecture circuit across the south. It got a fair amount of press when Tulane hired her a few years back. With Carville and what’s her face (msnbc poli sci woman) gone/leaving, she’s the closest thing we have left to “celebrity” faculty—-not that that category is necessarily a good thing. She’s obviously less famous than the other two, which bodes well. I’ve only met her once, and not for long, but she made a good impression

well congrats to her. I'll have to look up what she's written.

Won another National Book Award

First woman to ever win two

Three men (including Saul Bellow) have won two
