Can't believe her great-great grandmother's house in Pass Christian is still there after Camille, Katrina etc.

I have the honor of knowing a MacArthur grant recipient in the classical music world. Recipients tend to be game changers. You cannot apply for them.

She won the national book award a few years back and is THE hot ticket on the creative Writing guest lecture circuit across the south. It got a fair amount of press when Tulane hired her a few years back. With Carville and what’s her face (msnbc poli sci woman) gone/leaving, she’s the closest thing we have left to “celebrity” faculty—-not that that category is necessarily a good thing. She’s obviously less famous than the other two, which bodes well. I’ve only met her once, and not for long, but she made a good impression
