Dean James MacLaren leaves Tulane after 28 years

Post by JtS »

A HUGE loss for Tulane academics and athletics. Dean MacLaren is one of the most approachable, honest, hard-working Tulane leaders I have the pleasure of knowing. He truly cared for all of Tulane University and accomplished much to improve our university. To name a few - our rise in college ratings, expanding the courses and opening the Tulane School of Professional Advancement (University College) to undergrads, creating value added through alumni mentorship/job & internship programs. Plus, he was one of our biggest supporters of athletics.

I hope this was his choice.

I wish Dean MacLaren and his family the best in his new endeavors.

He will be missed...

Coincidence or is it just time? 28 years anywhere is a long time.

The rumors I hear (FWIW) are that he's just ready to retire. His departure is a HUGE loss but lord knows he's done plenty enough.

Provost at a university in Chicago. (I think Loyola of Chi but I’m not sure)

see.....success in basketball

kidding.

:king:

if it is Loyola, its not a step up in terms of academics, but Chicago is a nice city and certainly a change of pace from NOLA.

That's a significant step down. Is he from here.or was he forces out? Those are really the only two options that make sense to me.

He’s from New Zealand and has two daughters currently at TU

In fairness it’s a step down institutionally but a step up position wise. But still....
