124 years of Hullabaloo, for your digital nostalgia trip

Post by PeteRasche »

A big donation will have every single back issue of the Hullabaloo scanned and available digitally by November.

I can't wait to read all the student surveys on sex and drinking which have been published throughout the years...

… and the Vietnam War years. Some interesting times on Campus - especially when Tulane dismissed finals and school closed a couple weeks early. Whatever grade you had in the class at that time was the grade you received for the semester.

And, um, WWI and WWII...

… not quite that old - although the perspective coming from a college campus should be interesting...

No, I'm saying, in a 124-year history, there will be interesting perspectives of college students on all sorts of major world events written in real-time as they were happening. It will be interesting to see how students at the time handled those issues. Did students during WWI even know much of what was going on? Did they care? Did it all get hushed up and not talked about? Or were there outspoken college students in those days that we don't hear about (meaning, folks really haven't changed, just the means by which news and opinion was disseminated)?

I mean, in 124 years of coverage... what did the 1912 students think about the Titanic sinking, ya know? Some Tulane students probably had family on the ship.

It could actually be quite interesting to check out.

I want to find that personal ad we placed in the Hullabaloo after the Latin American Student’s Association held its first free tequila night in the Rat in 1976, I think.

It was something to the effect of “Wanted for assault and battery, Jose Cuervo!”

That is not quite right. The students had the choice of taking the grade offered by the professor or taking the final exam. You could try to improve your grade through taking the exam.

The university was offering students the chance to march on Washington.

That's garbage. Granted I wasn't alive, but the university failed their responsibility IMO
