This guy is far more established than Danny Manning... more bad news for Tulane hoops in the AAC

That's an interesting move on his part.

Disagree. He's an absolutely horrible coach. Miami fans threw a parade when he went to Mizzou and Mizzou fans had the same reaction auburn fans had when they hired Chizik. He'll get fired in 4 years.

Perhaps but I would be happy if Tulane had the 2012 National Coach of the Year in Bowling much less MBB.

BTW lots of coaches will be fired in four years. Meantime the SEC lotus eaters will have to explain how/why one of their mega-state members whose coach was doing well left for a little irrelevant conference NCAA school like Tulsa. (I don't recall but either Tulsa or Rice is the smallest school in undergrad population in FBS.)

After he failed to get a very talented team from a power league into the tourney, Mizzou is thrilled to let Haith go.

yeah, 2 of 3 years in the big dance sux... Missouri fans are clueless. Whomever they get will be worse than what they had... bottom line is he's far better than what we have on our bench

He won with someone else's players and choked big time in the NCAA tournament, losing to a 15 seed his first year. Once his predecessor's players startered leaving, Mizzou started regressing. Meanwhile, he never won more than 8 ACC games at Miami, making 1 NCAA tournament in 7 years and leaving the program in an NCAA mess. He leaves and larranaga proceeds to win 9 ACC games his first year, 15 his second, winning the ACC regular season and tournament. Heck, losing his top 7 scorers, larranaga was even able to win 7 ACC games this year, which would have been one of Haith's better years at Miami. Guy is a loser, plain and simple.

Look I know you bleed Hurricane Orange but aren't you trying to have it both ways? If Haith gets no credit for players he inherited at Missouri when he won 30 games and the Big XII then why should Larranaga get credit for winning 15 ACC games and the conference with Haith's players at the U?

Shane Larkin made that team and I don't believe he was a Frank Haith recruit... Put me on the side of thinking this hire looks far mor impressive than it is.

Haith took a Mizzou team that had been to the NCAA tournament 3 years in a row under Mike Anderson, including the Elite 8 and won with his players in the regular season, before bombing out in the first round of the NCAA tournament 2 years in a row and then making the NITs. Larranaga took over and instantly won where Haith could not (and, yes, Larkin was Larranaga's recruit). I'm not sure how you can look at that, plus his 43-69 ACC record at Miami, and not conclude that he is a pile of cra p.

What's going to be interesting is who Tulsa hires and how much they pay him, in light of entering the AAC. If they offered Manning $1M to stay, then they obviously have $1M available. Doesn't mean they'll offer $1M to the next guy, but the next guy (and the public) knows what they offered Manning, so they can't hire someone for $250K (hate to say it, but wouldn't that be a "Tulane thing to do"?). Their hire will make a statement about how "serious" they are.

Well, they at least think they're serious. This thread shows that is a subjective opinion. 8)

They're certainly serious, and why wouldn't they be? They're a program with historical success greater than our own stepping into the best conference situation they've ever been in. They've made nine tournaments since 1990 including an elite eight appearance and two sweet sixteens. They've been coached in the past by Nolan Richardson, Bill Self and Tubby Smith. Tulsa is a school that takes basketball seriously. It's no surprise that they are going to invest new money. It's too bad for the conference, but good for us, that they made a poor choice. It'll especially be good for us if it convinces anyone connected to our athletic department that it's going to take more to be competitive in the AAC.
