Dedric and KJ Lawson transferring from Memphis

Unread post by waverider »

@JohnMartin929:Dedric and KJ Lawson are transferring from Memphis. Ho. Ly.
I don't know their situation but one person tweeted in response "Guess pops is going to need a new job". Must have been a Ben Simmons situation.

Yep, dad is (was?, On edit, yep, was) Director of Basketball Ops. Maybe Mizzou has an opening and they can join the Michaels Porter.

Also, they apparently have 2 younger brothers who are quite good at basketball as well. Hiring dad could make a program for the next several years.

The better brother went thought the NBA combine process last year and pulled out of the draft as they didn't expect him to be drafted high or at all. At the college level, he is a beast. Assuming he ever plays another college game, somebody is going to get a terrific player. Memphis just solidified a few more years of mediocrity.

Wow. That's even beyond Conroy-esque.

Agree. I don't remember even EC trying to snake recruits who've committed to Ouachita Baptist University to fill the cupboard of departing players.

Maybe Tubby stopped the cash payments. Memphis has always seemed seedy to me.

In fairness, Conroy snapped those guys up as a first option, not a fallback.

That is funny. I saw a departure interview with Ryan Smith where he said Tulane was his only D-1 offer and I think I remember the same about Barrenos (sp?) from El Paso who left after one year. I'm sure there were more. As others have pointed out, folks like Tarrant and perhaps Osetkowski were not heavily recruited out of high school and simply used Tulane as a spring board when the opportunity presented itself.

Both those traitorous clowns [the rest of this post is redacted due to too many wildcards]

A previous bball assistant coach once said that there are "scouts" or "advisors" that steer kids to schools like Tulane to "make a name for themselves" in order to land a scholarship in a better program.
