this pplace was a little higher end but not way up there. they had great gilled burgers and cloth napkins, darkish atmosphere, candles on tables etc.

Bull's Corner?
Re: Uptown History Question: Grill name
That sounds like the Bull's Corner. Located one block off of Napoleon, next the Baptist.

Here's another one -
What was/is the name or the 24 hour grill that was opposite the Touro Infirmary Emergency Room entrance? Believe it cornered on Prytania St.

Re: Uptown History Question: Grill name
Wasn't there a place called "cafe banquette" in that area?
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?
Re: Uptown History Question: Grill name
Cafe Banquette was the name of the bar on the corner of Prytania and Delachaise for a little while. It's had a few names since then, and I'm not even sure what it's called right now.
Re: Uptown History Question: Grill name
Bull's Corner is long gone. There is one in LaPlace, I believe, but it isnt the same joint. The one near Baptist brought you a lazy susan full of condiments with your burger.
Re: Uptown History Question: Grill name
Bulls Corner had an excellent salad bar too, especially for its time.
Cafe Banquette had super fried mushroooms.

I'll never forget Cafe Banquette. When Morton Anderson (former Saint kicker) was a rookie for the Saints he used to hang out there on Wed or Thursday nights (which ever was ladies night). He was a pretty cool guy back then.
