RIP Ara Parseghian

Post by long green »

No one has mentioned this yet. Parseghian died today aged 93. Ara Parseghian just sounds like a name a football coach should have. Just feels good to say it. When he retired and did color on ABC football broadcasts and he had a good coach's voice, too. 95-17-4 at Notre Dame. No, I don't think they'll never as good as that or as good as they were under Holtz ever again. I almost miss that, but not really. Here is perhaps his finest moment.

And may our enemies, if they exist, be unconscious of our purpose. - From The Lady Vanishes

Was at that game. Great, great game even though ND won.

Pass from the end zone was one of the gutsiest calls ever. Sealed the NC.

IIRC, he was the one who figured out how to defend Darrel Royal's "wishbone" offense, and led ND to handing Texas it's first loss in something like 30 games (with 2 national championships along the way).

When I saw the article last week that he was sick, that was my thought.
