New baseball rules for next season

Unread post by waverider »

Per Kendall Rogers
• The third to first pickoff move has been outlawed in college baseball

• Pitchers will no longer be required to throw four pitches for intentional walks. You may just choose to intentionally walk a batter.

• Defensive players not allowed to block base w/o ball

• You now may not make a move to be intentionally HBP. If you do, a strike is called.

• Teams are now limited to six defensive conferences per game.

• Any ruling on an intentionally hit batter cannot be argued.

The intentional walk thing is silly. MLB did that to speed up the game and it saved them like 3 mins per contest.

Is it sillier than having the pitcher throw 4 intentional balls?

I think so. In cases where changing the rules has no impact, why change the rules? It only happens once in a very blue moon, but sometimes interesting things happen when a pitcher has to throw those 4 balls.

Personally, I think an internally walk is just a waste of 3 pitches.
I like the situations when a coach would bring in a new pitcher to intentionally walk someone. Way to start the new guy off on a positive note! The guy you too out couldn't have thrown 4 balls?!

There's nothing better than a guy swinging/hitting a pitch that's supposed to be an intentional ball. Wild pitches are also very entertaining.

It may seem nit picky, but make the pitcher throw four more pitches. If he is going to walk someone, it should cost a little energy.
