Along with that name, the sub-par 'Shrine on Airline' might contribute to the desire to find a better host. From what I've read it's a pretty bare bones facility.

The bones are fine. The issue is that most of the concessions aren't open on any given day (which, admittedly, is related to the poor attendance). It has some very nice features and is in good shape.

Supposedly, we'll get a AA team with what can only be a better name to replace them, which works for me.

here's an idea. If the AA ballclub thing falls through and the place is sitting there vacant, Tulane could sign a sweetheart lease to play its baseball games there, then we tear down Turchin and build a state of the art football practice facility in its place! :-D

sr, I've been to baseball games at Zephyr a number of times, I thought it was a pretty nice venue for baseball.

I'm excited. As long as they change their name!

Wichita has had an unaffiliated American Association team for the last 10ish years (the Wingnuts) after the Royals' AA team left for Arkansas due to an aging stadium. The Wingnuts propose to play at Wichita State's stadium when the old stadium is torn down, but they will probably end up moving. I assume the Zephyrs move announcement will be accompanied by the announcement of a new stadium, which has been expected here for the last year or so. The downtown waterfront area is undergoing a big facelift, and the stadium would be the cherry.

Nooooooooooo!

Quote:
It is unclear at this point whether the Baby Cakes would take the current logo and colors with them to Kansas or leave them behind for another team, though one source said the hope is for the brand to remain in New Orleans.

I don’t really follow them, just thought it was embarrassing. But there’s this:

Quote:
The rebranding in 2017 from the Zephyrs to the Baby Cakes — a reference to the king cakes that are ubiquitous in the area during Carnival — was ridiculed in some quarters of the internet, but it resulted in a significant bump in merchandise sales.

Schwechheimer told The Advocate last year that the Zephyrs had been in the bottom three in Triple-A merchandise sales for a decade before the name change. The Baby Cakes then finished in the top 20 in sales of nearly 200 minor league teams in the country during their debut season.

So I don’t know if I blame society or management.

I'd bet any new mascot/logo combination would do that just because the overall sales are so low that if you have new gear that even just the die hard fan would buy it would rocket you up the chart.

It’s my understanding that attendance got worse after the name change, so maybe.

No one is asking, so I will. Is this a positive for Tulane baseball?

Low attendance has also been a consistent problem, with the team regularly playing in front of mostly empty seats.

The rebranding in 2017 from the Zephyrs to the Baby Cakes — a reference to the king cakes that are ubiquitous in the area during Carnival — was ridiculed in some quarters of the internet, but it resulted in a significant bump in merchandise sales

Losing minor league baseball would be a small price to pay for never having to hear about "Baby Cakes" or "Shrine on Airline" ever again. Unfortunately, it sounds like the same owner wants to bring a AA team in here and keep the same bad branding that failed with the AAA team.

If they dropped the name and just had AA baseball it would be cool.
