I'm surprised, but it seems holgorsen is heading to Houston. Here's a good article on the move. Interestingly, Kliff Kingsbury eas also looked at. Not sure if I'd rather have him or Holgo. Anyway $20 million contract is expected.

I'm not. Rumors have been swirling for years about WVU and Holgorsen having some "differences." His winningest years came early, showing that he had trouble with recruiting his own guys as time wore on. WVU football is the biggest thing in the state and has a rabid alumni fan base. The Mop has not shown that he can bring its program to the next level. Really, it's only a matter of time for him. I believe the article hits the issues pretty much spot on.

Frankly, if it does happen, Cougar High hiring Holgorsen gives the AAC more street cred. I'm all for it on many fronts. WVU will get a good coach and will always have great support. Hope he takes it.

Yeah I knew about the issues he had there, it's just not that common for a P5 coach to willingly leave for a G5 job. That Houston found the money to pay him is rare amoung G5 positions.

Houston doesn't have money problems as mentioned in earlier posts. They got the owner of the Golden Nugget casinos, the Rockets and a restaurant empire all rolled up in one booster who happens to be the chairman of their board of regents.

Frankly, Fickell is a great choice for WVU. Great for Ohio recruiting. But Brown may be less expensive and just as good a hire.

If WVU took Fickell after already having Huggins, I don't know what Cincinnati fans would do...

Kind of what WVU fans did when Michigan took the soccer coach, Bielein and Rodriguez. Besides, UC had already terminated Huggins when WVU hired him. Cry me a river for UC...

I hope so. However our schedule just got tougher. He will field a potent, though no longer innovative, offense. They have a ton back on as well. They cant do worse than d'nofrios defense. They play Oklahoma and Wazzou. They knew 2019 was set up to be banner year for them. I suspect that is why they couldn't afford to be patient with Applewhite. They should be favorited to win the west. Us and Memphis should be right behind them.

Just heard an interview with Holgorsen on a Houston radio station. He is a character and I would love to go for drinks with him, Leach, Huggins, and Frank Martin. Guarantee you would have no idea how you got home. He would fit in New Orleans like a glove. Where is our Tilman Fertitta? No offense, but our biggest donors love tennis and sailing.

I can attest to Bob Huggins being hysterical. I sat by him at a basketball game once and he had everyone in stitches and that was sober. As dry as he is in interviews, convert that to droll sarcasm.

Pete Thames is tweeting that WVU is close to hiring Neal Brown of Troy. Superb hire under the circumstances if it happens.

Agreed. I can't believe he nearly made it through another hiring cycle without being plucked from Troy.

K-State hires ND State's coach.

Interestingly he’s going to finish out the ND St season. Being in the playoffs that means it’s open as to when he becomes Kansas St’s full time coach. SD St @ ND St is on right now.

ND St won the FCS championship today so he can start concentrating on K St

There may be an opening in Houston tomorrow.

Also, interesting strategy by USC AD with Kingsbury...

That too. If Texans had an owner, I'd be worried for my job

Another article on the Holgerson hire at UH. Interesting.

Would be nice to have a desirable coach who always dreamed of coming back to Tulane and a billionaire booster available to make sure it happened, eh?

… well Gayle Benson is worth $2.8B. She's tied with Oprah on the list.

The purchase of Fireball and then its transformation under new managment into a top performing alcohol brand may be one of the greatest wealth generating business moves by any Louisianan ever. Perhaps up there with Benson buying/owning the Saints/Pels with state aid!

If you want to maximize the analogy throw in Jill and Avi Glazer who have strong connections now to N.O. and participated in LBO of Man U after family already owned the Bucs.

Why does it matter? All have deep and strong ties to Tulane Board and Athletics. In other words, we are not helpless here.

The Glazers tip the scales at modest $4B.

The missing part of the equation is a hot coach at a P5 school who has such strong ties to Tulane that he always dreams of coming back. And it wouldn't hurt if said coach frequently "has c0cktails" with one of our billionaire boosters mentioned above (as with Holgerson and the Houston guy). One would think that if this situation existed, that coach would be coaching Tulane instead of Fritz (i.e., would have been hired back when Fritz was, cost-be-damned).

Nonetheless, I read read that story I linked (did y'all read it?) and none of our billionaire boosters seem to be in the same "situation" (with respect to their intent for successful athletics) that this guy is. Sure, they've given a lot of money towards facilities, I but never got the impression any of them have said "go hire {so and so}, we'll make sure he gets every cent required to bring him here"... know what I mean?
