Southern Miss wants to return to its former glory--no matter what, apparently.

USM could hire a consortium of Briles, Rodriguez, and Leach as joint OCs and not return to its "former glory." With what CUSA has become, USM cannot attract the kind of players it had when it regularly went toe-to-toe with Ole Miss and MSU (and won its share) both on the field and in recruiting. Hate it for them - they were the poster child for doing "more with less," but I don't see a better conference giving them a shot with their financial situation, and unfortunately today for recruiting and media and public attention it is far more about the conference you are in rather than the history of your team.

Yup. And you could add "location" along with financial situation. I don't think any conference is clamoring for the Hattiesburg TV market nor the road trip there.

Just curious in case anyone knows, did distant teams who played them fly into Jackson and bus? Or did they hit Hattiesburg-Laurel? Or even Hattiesburg municipal?
