I watched some of the Tennessee-LSU basketball game Saturday (was at Buffalo Wild Wings, but was with my usual group playing Buzztime trivia like we do most Saturdays at noon). One of the LSU players did a tackle that they could use as instruction for the football team to show how to tackle. I can't believe the refs had to spend more than one or two seconds reviewing the replay to decide if it was a bad foul; blatant take-down. Later a second LSU player did a rather thuggish play; both had technicals called on them. The Tennessee player missed both freethrows; that certainly came back to haunt them since they lost in overtime.

I have very little respect for such play.

Hmmm....

SEC says referee’s ‘Geaux Tigers’ social media post is ‘not acceptable’

Quote:
Southeastern Conference basketball referee Anthony Jordan has come under fire for a Twitter post he made in 2014 while posing with an LSU Tigers T-shirt in Europe while on vacation.

Jordan was the official who called the foul on Tennessee’s Grant Williams with 0.6 seconds left in overtime, sending LSU’s Javonte Smart to the free throw line for the go-ahead points in the game.

Sort of reminds me of a certain NFC playoff game where the bulk of the officiating team came from the hometown of the visiting team. There might not be any partiality, but why even begin to have such a situation possible?

It ain't over for Will Wade (or Donald Trump) until the Fat Rabalais sings. I went to the sports page and a WAPO OP ED broke out.

Money quote: "Maybe there is trouble ahead for Wade and LSU in terms of an NCAA recruiting probe, but based on the facts right now there is simply no way to tell. It’s a lot like the Robert Mueller special council investigation that is expected to be released soon. It may spell serious trouble for President Trump or it may not. Based on what is known about the investigation now, there is again no way to tell."

FBI wiretap reveals LSU’s Will Wade discussed ‘offer’ with convicted middleman: report

Quote:
“Dude,” Wade continued, referring to the third party involved in the recruitment. “I went to him with a [expletive] strong-ass offer about a month ago. [Expletive] strong.

“The problem was, I know why he didn’t take it now, it was [expletive] tilted toward the family a little bit,” Wade continued. “It was tilted toward taking care of the mom, taking care of the kid. Like it was tilted towards that. Now I know for a fact he didn’t explain everything to the mom. I know now, he didn’t get enough of the piece of the pie in the deal.”

Won't happen. The NCAA is taking the puss position on all of this. They've already stated that penalties won't be announced until after the season

Sgt. Schultz at LSU knows nothing. Check out the very timely video interview.

Let's see how Joe Alleva handles this one. Something tells me he will do it with complete arrogance.

We'll see if King Alexander treats LSU Basketball as a third rail like football. My SWAG is no but nothing more than a gut guess and this.

Last month while the DKE hazing stuff was unfolding, Alexander put on paid leave every University official in chain of command overseeing Greek activities until he could investigate who knew what and when, etc.

They subsequently all got cleared and returned to their jobs but again this started before the indictments and arrests were even announced.

If similar timetable is used for Wade then he will be suspended with pay and LSU may even decline to play in post-season. Nothing will be done yet to Alleva. So my SWAG (and out there on a limb) is Wade is put on leave. Not sure if team will be as well. That might be the third rail.

Regardless this will be on front page of Advocate every day and lots of other media so Alexander can't ignore it. Here is final tell: Nothing in paper today by Rabelais, the mouthpiece of LSU admins when it suits them. Rabelais always writes on deadline so that means something is up and it is too soon to report it.

The Cajun cannon, Bobby Hebert, was preaching to the masses last night that everything must be done to keep Wade not matter what happens. The tiger fans are too hungry for a winner in basketball. Everybody does it so why not weather the storm and be relevant in 2021 or 2022. What a friggin idiot and his side kick didn’t have the nads to tell him anything but agree. Hell, Hebert should open another restaurant and put Willie Wade in charge. Most ridiculous crap I have ever heard other than the definition of a Tulane bulldog.

Don't be surprised if NOTHING comes from this to Wade. The boys up the river are very good at covering their asses.

It sounds to me that they have seen evidence that must be fairly sizeable; otherwise they would be doing the usual "we are going to do an internal investigation, so don't bother. In the meantime, we'll let you know if we find anything bad..." I might be overreading this, but the rapidity of the suspension suggests that there is more to the story.

Umm, they have him on tape talking about offers to recruits, their families, and middlemen.

That wiretap stuff was published last summer. LSU "no commented " until the national press started suggesting that somebody oughta do something here.

The Javonte Smart tape material is fresher, more recent in connection with the next trial coming up in mid to late April.
