Fire it back up! Apparently Mark Dantonio is resigning from Michigan State.

Word around here is Fickell was waiting for that one to open. I'd put him as a STRONG favorite.

Coworker who is a big UC supporter says most folks would want their DC Marcus Freeman to get the gig. That might rescue them from signee defections (since they are tops in recruiting in the AAC)... Regardless, the timing of Dantonio's announcement sure isn't good for late signings tomorrow!

Shocker... but good for our conference profile.

Fickell turns down Michigan State offer to stay at Cincinnati. Rumor is the offer was $5M and he's making $2.2M now. Makes you wonder how ugly things might be getting with the MSU scandal...

Good for AAC

Meanwhile wild rumor of the day among my LSU buds is KU is “encouraging” Les to retire. He is saying NOT.

No clue on validity of this other than it’s more interesting than GOAT discussions with those folks

That was mentioned right after the season. Kansas after Les, whenever it happens, will be in worse shape than when Beaty was fired.

Agree. Bizarrely it will help Tulane keep Willie although he would appear to be a natural fit for KU. Perception about Miles underachieving will be reinforced that you don't hire "old" coaches. Look at some of the random comments on Tiger Droppings about the "seasoned" replacement for Brady that Orgeron just hired.

Colorado HC Mel Tucker reportedly leaving to take the MSU job after initially turning it down.
Now Colorado is open. Kansas City Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy should be frontrunner for Colorado.

Yes, but he’s made his mark in the NFL. If he goes home and wins he’ll still be on NFL short lists. A guy should almost always take a job when he will be treated as a savior by taking it.

Not exactly working out for Harbaugh and Frost (except for bank accounts).

Harbaugh has actually improved Michigan back to Lloyd Carr levels. If he’s in trouble Michigan is in much more trouble.

I’m mostly saying that under the circumstances that now prevail in Boulder, Bieniemy would be given a hero’s welcome.

Call me crazy, but I think OSU's advantage over Michigan at the moment has alor to do with the shadier side of college sports and OSU's brazen attitude about it.

I guess I'm out of the cultural mainstream and I know the author brings unique perspectives to his job but can someone clue me in on what the new MSU coach is telling the Dog faithful in this tweet?

I don't know how it might apply, since I didn't read his book, "Swing Your Sword," but I suspect there may be some sort of relevance in there.

Yeah, he's a real nice guy too (in a sincere way, not in a flashy/recruiter-y kind of way)...his kid(s?) went to the same school as mine when he was at Warren Easton and I talked to him a couple times.

So is it fair to say that without the Hull pipeline to 4-star New Orleans kids, Miles' days at Kansas are (even more) numbered?
