Nice win!
Re: #91 Tulane vs #45 WSU
Looks like first thunderstorm is forecast about 4:30 and it will pass pretty quickly. That’s a future radar so not completely accurate but we should be able to get the game in.

I played with gloves that were only marginally larger than my hand. The first glove I had that extended more than an inch-and-a-half beyond my fingers was in the 1970s. Now, it seems like outfielders' gloves extend about 5 inches or more beyond the fingers.

Oh no, I'm perfectly aware of his age. That's why I posted it, because I know he takes it all in good humor.windywave wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 2:44 pmYou forget his age.....he was complaining about the officials at the gladiator gamesPeteRasche wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 2:19 pmI love that Roller calls things made in the past 100 years "modern".
I think there's a noticeable age gap on this board amongst the regulars. Seems like there's a batch that graduated Tulane pre-1975 (or so) and then hardly anyone until the few my age who graduated early to mid 90s, anf the rest are younger. There are hardly any between. That would equate to a gap in age of people currently between like 50 and 65.

IN the 60s, there was not a lot of "school spirit" surrounding athletics. Because of that, the hardcore fans were a bit more "hard" core. As our numbers dwindle, the few of us who are still around probably appear more noticeable because we are so few. In the '70s, as the media diverted attention away from Tulane and more heavily covered another Louisiana team, interest waned even further. Those of us who had moved away from Louisiana had little connection with the University. The advent of the Internet is what got the band back together.PeteRasche wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 4:36 pm Oh no, I'm perfectly aware of his age. Good point. That's probably a really legit reason explaining the gap. Frankly I'm only here because I played sports and therefore became connected. There are a few peers of mine on this forum but they probably got to be fans because of the basketball success. Otherwise the younger folks probably connected due to 1998. But between the mid 70s (wins over LSU) and my era... a loooooong gap...Roller wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 4:56 pmIN the 60s, there was not a lot of "school spirit" surrounding athletics. Definitely basketball success brought me and my friends in during that time (although we did go to football games (which included transportation there and, frequently, free beer as significant motivating factors). Very few of the folks I went to games with lurk around here though.PeteRasche wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 4:59 pmGood point. That's probably a really legit reason explaining the gap. Curious though... Do those friends still follow Tulane sports? Like, do they text you during games or anything? Outside of this and the gotula forums and the Facebook football alliance group, I've always wondered how many scattered groups (no matter how small) of old Tulane friends still follow game results.GretnaGrn wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 5:50 pmDefinitely basketball success brought me and my friends in during that time (although we did go to football games (which included transportation there and, frequently, free beer as significant motivating factors). Outside of folks here, I have two groups of friends who actively follow Tulane games - football, some basketball, and on the rare occasion, baseball - and will send group texts about a game as it is going. Each of the groups is three others and me. Typically the text is sent by one specific person within each group who is watching (besides me), and the others likely tune in once they've seen the text chain.
Re: #91 Tulane vs #45 WSU
Exactly one of them is still that engaged, or even close, besides me. The rest will watch if we’re on regular tv or postseason, but that’s about itPeteRasche wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 7:19 pmCurious though... Do those friends still follow Tulane sports?
