Looks like Harvey will head to the central Texas coast. Rain always welcome.

I was going to point out that Harvey is now predicted to be Category 3 at landfall, and that TU Volleyball is opening the season tomorrow in San Antonio, but this is now apparently a wine thread . . . so never mind.

No it would be a wine thread if I had started with Harvey's Bristol Cream Sherry, but I went with an imaginary giant rabbit instead.

With the 'updating' visual aids it remains a storm thread. The WVB team should consider not coming over. Rain is going to be the issue and since they really don't know were Harvey is going after landfall, I-10 could be a mess from Houston to San Antonio.

I opened this thread thinking that it had something to do with the tunnel on the West Bank.

Nothing from Tulane, but UTEP, one of the other participants,, says that tournament in San Antonio has been cancelled. Not a great way to start the season.

They're thinking the rain from Harvey is going to make it all the way up here middle of next week. Just so we don't get the wind like we did in 2009.

Harvey a category 4 now. Powered up really fast from a 3 to a 4. Stay safe Wave fans...and Cougar fans, and Owl fans, and Cardinal fans, and maybe even Cajun fans.

Editing here: I seem to have forgotten the Cowboy fans.

Pressure still staying high at 938. Gusts in Port Aransas at 120+. Landfall 4 miles East of Rockport at 10 PM.

These Weather Channel guys are just a bit much. The guy in Port Lavaca is going for a TV Emmy.

Well, I don't know about the Emmy, but it seems to me that TWC puts these guys in harms way. But they know that being in peril sometimes comes with the job. In fact I'm thinking that some of those folks actually like it.

There are some 20,000 folks stuck at sea on cruise ships waiting to dock in Galveston. No way I would ever go cruising in the Gulf of Mexico or the Caribbean at this time of the year. Go in the winter or early spring to those places. Duh.

That's kinda been the MO for well over a decade (I cut the cord in 2008 and they were doing it years before I did). Jim Cantore and his underlings bask in hurricane season - hurricanes mean huge ratings for them. They've been kept from getting too crazy for a while by many quiet years. This is the first big one they've had in a while, I'm sure they have a lot of pent-up energy.

The 2004 hurricane season was comedy gold. I'll never forget when one of the storms turned hard just before landfall, leaving Cantore in an unaffected area with light drizzle, and some inexperienced cub reporter getting hammered. Cantore literally filed a report from the open back of a moving pick-up truck to make the rain and wind appear worse. Meanwhile the other kid was inside a parking deck, holding on for dear life and practically being blown horizontal, while scraps of debris blew by. He nearly got killed by a flying traffic sign.

I'm thinking that Harvey has worn out his welcome in Texas. Time to go back to Africa where he came from. Hmm. That is the first time I used that "wave" emoticon.
