Lou Malnatis & Chicago Deep Dish
Thanks to you clowns... and you know who you are... that discussion about the Northwestern game and Lou Malnatis got my wife looking on the internet to see how we could make good Chicago deep dish at home, using Lou's butter crust and gluten free (aka sausage) crust recipes.
Well, today is the day... we bought cast iron pans and I just baked the sausage crust... the butter crust dough has risen and I'm about to roll it out and put it in its respective pan.
I will update this thread with the results.

two weeks ago we were at Disney World; we were driving along Vineland Apopka just east of the Disney Springs area (formerly Downtown Disney), and saw a Giordano's sign. I went online, and it looks like the Chicago institution has a restaurant near Lake Buena Vista. I was chatting with a couple from Maryland by the pool, and they went there on my recommendation, said it was great.
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

For that much work, I’d rather make a real pizza

Look at it this way, even if the pizzas are a fail, now you own cast iron skillets, which every kitchen should have.

Make sure you take care of them correctly. I learned the importance of proper care of cast iron during my son's boy scout experience.PeteRasche wrote:Look at it this way, even if the pizzas are a fail, now you own cast iron skillets, which every kitchen should have.

Those are all aluminum or anodized aluminum... neither are good for you. The cast irons worked great and the pizzas were the best home made pizzas I've made... and I can flip a good pizza.windywave wrote:Or he should have bought a proper deep dish panPeteRasche wrote:Look at it this way, even if the pizzas are a fail, now you own cast iron skillets, which every kitchen should have.
