Exactly. When the season starts to slow down the weather PhD's will take a collection of showers and start doing rain dances looking for that last big one.

Fall break this week and students have Thursday and Friday off as well as football bye week. This is one time by sheer luck where potential randomness of storm direction and/or intensity doesn't matter.

I've heard that the storm passing to the east of New Orleans may actually drag cooler air down.Baywave1 wrote:Fall break this week and students have Thursday and Friday off as well as football bye week. This is exactly what is going to happen. From Thursday morning forward it will be in the 60s in the AM in the Big Easy.OGSB wrote:I've heard that the storm passing to the east of New Orleans may actually drag cooler air down.Baywave1 wrote:Fall break this week and students have Thursday and Friday off as well as football bye week. Michael projects to be a Cat 3/4 coming ashore on the Florida panhandle on Wednesday. If I remember correctly Cheerleader’s part of the country. Hang tough.

Every time I read this thread I want to say white rum, mix, cherry, oranges, ice, and a hurricane glass. Finally out of my system

Just curious for those of you with more "experience" - is there a previous example of a hurricane that hit the gulf coast that just popped up out of nowhere in the Caribbean and headed straight into the US? Seems like those "Caribbean pop-ups" are few and far-between and when they do occur, they seem to just immediately run aground into Central America without getting very strong, and die out with minor damage.
Also, I remember posting (might even be earlier in this thread on a previous page?) a story I found about how the Atlantic and Caribbean waters were unusually cold this summer and they didn't expect anything big. And now the Caribbean is so warm that hurricanes are just forming right there? Seems strange...

the speed it's going to come shooting through the southeast is probably a good thing.. should lessen the flooding potential in NC where we don't need any more heavy rainTUPF wrote:Michael projects to be a Cat 3/4 coming ashore on the Florida panhandle on Wednesday. just to show you how fast things can change and how imprecise the models are, the meteorologist here reported on Saturday night that it might get to Cat 1, but it was facing a ton of sheer and wouldn't pose much of a threat and then would rocket through the SE... now it's going to be a Cat 3 when it hits near Tallahassee and still a tropical storm when it reaches NC.. but a fast mover

I wonder at what point all the Delmarva schools freak out about the high school football schedules and postpone/cancel games again. Right now I have games on Thursday and Saturday.
This is an area where schools are canceled when it “might” snow.

We are flying down to Orlando Thursday afternoon to visit daughter, and so son can have a fall break. Connections through Atlanta (in Kingsport when you die you get to heaven by making a connection through Charlotte or Atlanta) mid-afternoon. Hopefully will not be disrupted too much, hoping the storm has moved past by the time we fly.
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

Interesting how much the forecasting of hurricane movement has improved. This storm is not that far on a direct line from SE Louisiana yet we're not even in a current tropical storm watch. Barely a yawn around here. Back in the day, it would be chaotic in N.O. right now (or at least at the mouth of the river) because of storm potentially turning NW.
Regardless may it pass quickly over the Panhandle. Prettiest beach sand in the world.
