Now a tropical storm. Make you preparations and make sure you have all your canned goods (duh...beer  ). But most of all make sure you are safe from this one. We have a lot of cheering to do come 08/29/19, and we will need all of your voices on that date.

@CityOfNOLA rips Washington Post over Barry coverage:

I’m heading to bed

I think nola is ok
I hope no place gets the 20+ inches possible.

Probably doesn’t need to be said but:

Charge your cell phones fully

Freeze plastic cups of water in case power goes out and you can put the ice in an ice chest

Hopefully you have:
An ice chest
Bottled water
Flashlights
Flashlight batteries

A full tank of gasoline

Best wishes for all.

Just looking at radar, Mobile seems to be getting the brunt of the rain.

After the last few years I am convinced that the sports adage of offense selling seats but defense winning championships—the hurricane Category 1/2/3/4/5 gets the headlines but it’s the overwhelming rain that does the damage. That mess in Houston a couple of years back and end of the world flooding in Vermont from just the remains of a hurricane tells me that after Jim Cantore showboats in front of the flying debris, it’s the 20+ inches of rain with nowhere to go that we should always worry about.

Cool graphics. Water has to go somewhere.

It’s more a question of when not where.

With the lake being so high, the answer is “later”

I just went on my front porch to check out the situation. There are several still unsold/empty lots in my neighborhood from after Katrina. It is really pretty dark with few other lights on around here. Also the birds are no where to be found. Guess they flew somewhere else. So that makes it pretty eerie on my street. Few lights on and no birds chirping. Plus there is currently no rain and very little wind blowing. You'd never think there was any weather situation going on if you didn't know better.

I was mocking one of the Weather Channel "death mongers" on my FB page.. he was on Canal St. at 730am New Orleans time and commented how it was deserted (presumably because of Barry)... 730am on a Saturday on Canal is ALWAYS deserted. Then the same a88clown commented on the 43,000 homes in S. Louisiana without power and commented "with an average of 4 people per household, that's well over 100,000 people without power"... like why the fk would the amount of individuals matter? Oh yeah, because 43K wasn't an alarming enough number.

Exactly. Last night on NBC news they put on Big AL to talk about the dangerous heat gripping the S, SE & NE. Big AL didn't once talk about the real temp, but only the 'feels like' temp. Feels like is not measurable - it just looks good for the weather alarmists. Who pays these people?

you and I are just as qualified to talk about the weather as that cretin.. when he DID have an AMS seal, he was about as accurate as a shotgun from 100 yards.. now that he's no longer a real weather person, he is more likely to correctly predict when the "Hot Donuts Now" sign is illuminated than what the weather will be.

My father remembered a story about a news guy who was asked to be the weatherman on a national morning show. He pooh-poohed the job offer, stating that he was a serious news reporter, and not a weather guy. When they told him that they would pay him $1 million a year, his reply was "I wonder what the weather will be like in New York tomorrow." Don't know how true it was, but I suspect that there is a degree of veracity to it.
